Chapter 20: Closer

~Astrid's POV~

I woke up to the peaceful sound of birds chirping around, I sat up and rubbed my eyes while yawning. I looked around before getting up and headed inside the bathroom to freshen up.

When I was finished, I made my way down stairs all the way to the kitchen. "Ah, there you are!" Aunt Valka blurted after seeing me walking over.

"Good morning" I greeted as I sweetly smiled, "My, you look rather beautiful today!" Aunt Valka complimented, I raised a brow at her studded words but responded anyway

"What are you talking about Aunt? I'm always beautiful!" I sassyly responded, Uncle laughed

"She is very much like you!" He said

"Nah! Hiccup's more like me, she's definitely more like you!" Aunt Valka protested

"Astrid, come" Hiccup suddenly spoke, I looked over to his direction and I saw him gently pat the chair next to him, signaling me to sit over there.

"What are you doing tonight?" He asked out of the blue, "Mm, nothing? Not that we have anything much to do. Summer Vacation is almost near and we don't do much in school except clean." I responded

"Why?" I asked

"Well, I'd appreciate it, if you come with me tonight? I have something I need to do" he explained, slicing through his 3 stack of pancakes

"Sure.." I quietly responded but I'm sure it was loud enough for him to hear

"Oh? Going on a date I suppose?" Aunt Valka said butting in to our conversation

I rolled my eyes as Hiccup explained "Mom, no! We are just getting some things that I need help with and that's just all!" He denied

"Where's your girlfriend Merida? Prioritizing other things eh?" Uncle said grinning at Hiccup, he rolled his eyes and continued eating.

"Dad! Like I told you she already left because the brand that she models for needed her there urgently!" He explained

"Yeah, like I said, prioritizing other things" Uncle persisted

"Okay, I don't get it!" Aunt blurted out

"Me neither" I replied

"You remember my ex?" Uncle suddenly asked, what a weird question to ask your wife whom you lost for 15 years and founded just a few months from now.

"No? Am I supposed to?" Aunt Valka asked looking at Uncle curiously

"Not necessarily but-" he explained a few things to her that only the two of them can hear, I heard some giggles and laughter for unknown reasons and I couldn't help but roll my eyes.

"Yeah, okay! I think, Astrid and I are ready to leave! Thank you for the breakfast, we'll visit again some time" Hiccup said as he held my shoulder and pushed me forcefully making me walk out.

"What was that for?" I asked after we got inside the car. I was fastening my seatbelt when the car suddenly moved from its place and then immediately stopped making me bump my head through the car's glove compartment.
