Not many people knew who I was. Sometimes, I wondered too. My real self was buried under piles of different covers. For the longest time, I could differentiate the lie from the truth. Nowadays, I'm not so sure.

"You did good baby." My father said as we sat in his home office in California.

"Thank you." My mood was a bit gloomy, and I didn't know why. He noticed this and dropped the file. He held my hand and looked into my eyes.

"Hey, what's wrong?"

"I don't know. Since I've been back, I just can't snap out of it. I can't sleep, I'm constantly so stressed out. I just..."

"You just let him in. You didn't just let him into Sophie Kane, you let him into you. You let him get into your head."

"I didn't."

"You did. And that's totally normal. We all have that one target that made us question everything that we knew to be true. You're questioning a lot right now."

"What do I do?"

"You answer those questions. If you're asking them, they are important. And I'm more than happy to help you answer them, if you need my help." I thought about it for a moment, and I found the question I needed his help with.

"I've been undercover at The Organisation for five years, and undercover with Karrion for almost a year."

"Yes. Six years of you doing important work."

"Yes. But it just seems like this was such a delicate and specific mission. I wasn't sent to kill anyone, I was just sent to monitor them."

"Yes. Is there a question following?"

"Why? I don't ever get put on monitoring missions. I am sent to kill or gather vital information. Why send me all the way to Italy, create a whole identity for Sophie Kane as an art curator, send me to The Organisation as a spy for five years, just so I could get Karrion as a target? Why not just assign him to me from our agency?" He sighed and took off his glasses. His brown eyes seemed sleep deprived. His grey hairs were even more evident now.

"We've been keeping tabs on Karrion Black since his father was in charge. We knew he was climbing the ranks very fast and we knew for a fact that he would be more of a threat than his father was. Unfortunately, one of our agents slipped up and The Organisation found out about Karrion. Like flies, they ran toward his carcass. We knew that we would never get as close as we wanted with them surrounding him, so we sent you in."

"What if the plan didn't work?"

"I trained you myself. You are the best of the best." He got up and walked to the other side of the table where I was. He sat down next to me and held my hand. "I trusted you so much with the mission, and you made me so proud."

"Did you ever get scared that I might not come back?"

"I worried. Every single day. Especially when you weren't reachable. Once, I flew all the way Italy just to catch a glimpse of you. I waited for you at your office, but you never showed up." He swallowed hard and faked a smile.

"What is it?"

"Nothing." He smiled and walked back to his seat. "Since you got back, I've had time to think about everything that happened to you while you were away. And I think you deserve a break."

"No. I need to get back to work."

"You've been undercover for almost 6 years. You need a break."

"Everything that happened, happened to Sophie, not me. I'm fine."

"Sophie is just a name. You were the one that got beaten and..." He couldn't say that last part.

"Daddy..."

"This conversation is over. Take a break. That's an order from your boss, not your father."

I got up and walked out of the office. I had been staying at his place since I got back. But today, I had a doctor's appointment. It was the agency's policy that after each mission, we get a full body checkup.

When I got back from the doctor's, the house was empty. I was so tired, so I just went up to the room. The house was by the beach, and my room balcony gave me a clear view of the beach. As I laid in bed, in the complete darkness, I couldn't help but reminisce about the life of Sophie. It was quite something.

And each time I closed my eyes to sleep, the nightmares that haunted Sophie, haunted me too. The only thing that kept me calm was the sound of the water. The slamming of waves really.

I had been on many missions in my life, but few tortured me so much. Each time I closed my eyes, I saw Leo. I could see and feel my pain with him. Then I'd see Franco. A friend that was picked up during a mission. But the one face I really tried not to see, was his. Karrion didn't just haunt my dreams, he also tortured my mind and imagination. How could one person affect me so much?!

The next morning, I woke up to a call from my doctor. My results were ready. I got ready and headed down to the hospital. Now, I didn't expect so much from his tests because Karrion always made sure I got checked out after Leo. But I just had to hear him out.

"So, the good news is that you're fine. All injuries gotten while you were away have healed for the most part. I would still advise that you take time off so that it can heal completely."

"There's no need for that. I'm fine, I feel great."

"Well, the body is a deceiver. You need all the rest you can get. You both do." I eyed him suspiciously.

"Who's we?"

"You and your baby. You're pregnant."
