You never know who's telling the truth

We stood and looked at each other and I felt the nervous feeling in my stomach.

As we stood there my phone vibrated and we lost eye contact when I looked down to take up my phone, it was Damon who messaged

"have you seen Enzo?"

"No. What's wrong?" I replied

"He turned off his humanity and he's gone".

I looked up "I need to go"

"what's wrong love?"

"Enzo turned off his humanity and is gone somewhere"

"okay love, I hope you'll find him" we both smiled as I walked away

I walked to the Salvatore mansion.

I made my way in and nobody was there

"hello Damon. Someone here?"

I got no answers and I then texted Stefan

"do you know where Enzo is?"

"I'm sorry, he left town. He won't come back"

"what?!, no he can't leave"

"he did. I know he's your friend but he probably don't want you to look after him"

I turned off my phone and got tears in my eyes.

Damon came in "did you also get the message?" I asked Damon

"yes I did".

Damon held up a glass of bourbon as Stefan also came in.

"I know. I know what you're thinking. I screwed up. I'm the reason Enzo's in our lives, the reason he wants us dead. It's my fault. And I'll fix it, okay? He was there for me at my worst, I'll find a way to be there for him. I'll get him back. I'll fix it" Damon took a sip of his drink

"No Damon, I'll help you. He's my friend too"

Damon got a little smile on his lips as he looked sad and then he looked back at Stefan who just stood there not saying anything.

"Did I leave anything out?".

Stefan walked closer "I checked on Elena, she's alright"

"yeah I know. Found her on campus, unconscious"

"unconscious? What did Enzo do?" I asked getting closer to them

"He was after Elena and Stefan so I took her home and tucked her in"

"you didn't leave a note?" Stefan said.

"I think I'm past trying to earn points for good behavior Stefan"

"you know what happened today wasn't your fault"

"that's very noble brother. We both know that's not the truth"

"well either way, I think it's time you leave Enzo alone"

"can't"

"come on Damon. He's not your responsibility"

"you're the only one who plays hero? Or you just don't think I can do it?"

"I think he's not worth saving"

"you don't know what you're talking about"

"that's true Stefan. Enzo is worth saving" I said as I sat down on the couch

"really?"

"Yeah. Know what you never knew. The whole time I was in that cell, every time I'd say something terrible about you or blame you for not coming and rescue me, Enzo would bring me back from the edge" Damon said.
