Much time has passed, yet still I suggest,
We should wonder what followed the Quest.
The Quest was a rather simple endeavor,
A journey which began with only a feather.

In the hours long before the sunrise,
As pink and purple hues painted the skies,
Sapnap observed the dawn with lifted eyes.
His pleasant smile was a perfect disguise.
Spirits did not fear death following them.
Only their allegiances could cause mayhem.

Beside Sapnap stood a stoic man,
Whose hopes stretched farther than his wingspan.
Hell caused angels like Dream to decay,
And Heaven warned demons like Sapnap to stay away.
If demons were predators and angels were prey,
Then how could Dream possibly stay?

Reaching sideways, Dream grabbed Sapnap's hand.
Together they gazed across the land.
Delicate petals,
Stinging nettles,
And a single grazing horse.
These images will be burned into their minds, of course.

Subtly Dream plucks a feather from his wing.
It shines and sparkles like a fine jewelry thing.
He slips the feather between Sapnap's fingers.
Despite their differences, their love always lingers.

"I think our time has come,"
Dream reveals, heart pounding like a drum.
Sapnap's head swivels to face him.
The angel's sincerity causes tears to brim.
"It can't happen now," the demon must insist.
If Sapnap follows him then they may coexist!

Releasing Sapnap's hand, Dream withdraws.
He frowns at his lover's scales, his horns, and his claws.
Both the angel and the demon must diverge,
No matter how their hearts may surge.
So Dream leaves his feather with his lover,
Breaking their tie so Sapnap can find another.

The angel Dream flies into the air,
Gliding silent as an owl.
Sapnap retreats to his underground lair,
Shouting his grief with a demonic howl.
This is when the Quest is born,
In the heart of a demon so lonely and forlorn.
He simmers deep within his hellish cave,
Plotting and burning below a world of graves.
Sapnap remains in Hell for many years,
Until one day he confronts his fears.

With claws extended, Sapnap crawls,
Sick of hibernation and clawing all of his walls.
He emerges from the cave with wings unfolded,
In the absence of Dream, his heart has molded.
Yearning for the angel who occupies skies above,
With a ravenous hunger for his love,
Sapnap escapes from Hell and swims across its moat,
Too determined to stop and gloat.
Wings flap and the demon soars,
With shrieking cries and frightening roars.
He carries a glittering feather with care,
Because he knows it will lead him there.

Past Earth and far beyond Hell,
Sapnap feels like he is under a spell.
Will angels stop him from entering Heaven?
Would Dream reject a demon who might slay his brethren?
But as the demon approaches those pearly gates,
He is shocked at what awaits.
Something?
No, nothing.
The depths of Hell are crowded like a dense city,
So Heaven's barren landscape summons a strange pity.
Unsure if this is a trap,
The demon calls, "Hello? Dream? It's Sapnap!"

Then his Quest ends in a moment so abrupt,
He wonders if his eyes are corrupt.
Beyond distant clouds he sees,
Through wind that whistles above the trees,
There is a single angel among the emptiness,
Whose patience calms Sapnap's distress.
Now the demon uncovers a surprising twist.
That angel over there is the last who exists.

As the king of all angels and yet none,
Dream hovers in midair: completely stunned.
He has waited for this entire time,
Although years of solitude were less than sublime.
For Dream knew that someday Sapnap would ascend.
And their bond would finally mend.

Reunion brings joy back to their hearts.
Now no one else can keep them apart.
Beneath a warm sun of raging fire,
Sapnap can finally indulge in his desire.
His claws, his scales, his twisting horns?
They will not restrict him anymore.
He touches Dream's feathered wings without worry.
Happy tears make his vision blurry.
Dream's golden halo shatters when they kiss.
Fortunately it is not something he will miss.

So now we can guess the rest,
Of what happened after the Quest.
No demon has chosen Heaven over Hell before,
And Dream is sure he could not love an angel more.
In skies of endless blue,
With a love the spirits know is true,
Eternal happiness may finally ensue.
Sharing beef stew and cashews and fondue?
For the rest of time that is all Sapnap and Dream wish to do.
