Walter couldn't believe what he was hearing. He had thought that Jack was here to raid the CIA headquarters.

Walter gritted his teeth, trying his best to control his temper. He knew he had made a colossal mistake in misunderstanding Jack's intentions. He had to find a way to salvage the situation before the Director arrived and discovered his blunder.

But as he thought about the impending confrontation with the Director, Walter couldn't help but feel a cold sweat on his forehead.

The Director was notorious for his hot-headedness and quick temper. If he learned about Walter's mistake, he knew he would be in for a world of trouble.

As the two men stared each other down, Walter knew that he had to act fast. He tried to regain his composure as he asked Jack,

"Aren't you here for tax matters?"

Walter's voice was strained, and his smile was a little distorted. He tried his best to appear calm and collected, but inside, he panicked.

As he waited for Jack's response, Walter's mind raced with all the possible outcomes of this situation. He knew his career was on the line, and he couldn't afford to mess this up.

He hoped that Jack's true purpose in coming was to investigate the CIA's tax issues, which would put the blame on everyone and redirect Brown's anger toward the IRS.

Though the CIA would suffer a significant loss, it was still a better outcome than facing Brown's wrath alone.

Jack understood Walter's plan, but he had already accomplished his goal. Investigating the CIA's tax issues seemed like a waste of time.

After all, it was not his concern what happened to Walter. He believed that everyone must bear the consequences of their actions.

Walter became impatient as he didn't know how long it would take for Brown to arrive. Suppose he could successfully divert Jack's attention to the CIA's taxation issues before that. In that case, he could minimize the losses he might face.

"Don't you understand what I'm talking about, Jack? The CIA has tax issues!" Walter exclaimed, his eyes wide.

Jack frowned suspiciously. "What? CIA's tax issues?" he asked, tilting his head.

Walter was surprised that Jack didn't seem to understand and became even more worried. He knew there was surveillance in the meeting room, and he would be doomed if he told the truth directly. He was in a tangle and didn't know what to do.

Suddenly, Brown arrived at the CIA headquarters, and Walter could feel his anger building. Brown got out of the car and ignored the leaving fire convoy as he walked aggressively towards the meeting room.

Walter could see him accumulating his momentum, planning to use his force to overwhelm others straightforwardly.

But just as Brown arrived at the meeting room and opened the door, he heard a sentence that stopped him.

"Happy cooperation!"

Brown stood there, feeling entirely bewildered by the strange scene before him. His mind raced as he tried to make sense of the situation, but all he could see was Walter, the head of the marketing department, shaking hands with a man he had never seen before.

The man had a strange smile on his face that looked like he was both crying and laughing at the same time. Brown couldn't quite figure out if the man was happy or sad.

"Happy cooperation?" Brown muttered to himself, his confusion growing by the second.

"What's happening here?"

He watched as Walter introduced the man to him, but he couldn't quite catch his name over the sound of his own racing thoughts.

All he knew was that the man was an IRS employee and had been sent here under the orders of their Director, Chris.

Brown's heart started to race. He knew dealing with the IRS could be a nightmare, and he was already worried about this unexpected visit.

"Look at him, just a young boy. I can handle him with ease."

Brown thought confidently, his posture tall and proud as he prepared to counterattack with a thunderous momentum after Jack revealed his intentions!

Then, full of confidence, Brown heard Jack's following words.

"The purpose of my visit this time is to allow the IRS and the CIA to have a friendly cooperation event, including exchanges on management systems, equipment technology, and the professionalism of special agents.

To appear more sincere, the Director sent me to discuss this matter face to face."

If this were a two-dimensional world, Brown's whole body should be petrified by now and then shattered piece by piece.

What Jack said just now lingered in his ears. Words such as "friendly" and "cooperation" kept repeating in his mind.

After a long time, Brown turned his neck, made a clicking sound, and looked at Walter.

Walter lowered his head as he felt the sharp sword-like eyes staring at him. He didn't dare to raise his head at all. He stared at the floor as if interested in its texture.

Jack pretended not to notice the weird atmosphere in the conference room and then asked, "Director Brown, what do you think?"

Anyway, it wasn't Jack who was embarrassed. He didn't care so much!

"Then, it's settled. I'm looking forward to cooperating with the CIA!"

Jack greeted Brown with a forced smile, and Walter, who had kept his head down and remained silent since just now, got in the car and drove away.

The extent to which Brown's smile disappeared was directly proportional to Jack's distance.

When Jack's car was completely out of sight, Brown's face was covered with clouds.

"Walter." After a long silence, Brown said.

"Director...I'm here." Walter replied weakly.

"...Do you have anything to explain?" Brown took a deep breath and asked.

Walter felt the weight of Brown's gaze on him, like a physical burden, and he couldn't help but feel a chill down his spine.

He cleared his throat nervously and looked up at Brown, trying to form words in his mouth. But the words seemed stuck there, and he couldn't find the right way to explain his mistake.

Brown watched him intently, his eyes piercing like daggers. The silence in the room was deafening, and it felt like an eternity before Walter finally managed to stutter out an apology.

"I'm sorry, Director. I...I didn't anticipate that Jack intended to establish a friendly exchange. I should have been more careful."

Brown let out a deep sigh, his shoulders relaxing a bit. He knew that Walter was a good agent, but he couldn't afford to make any more mistakes like this.

"Well, let's make sure that this exchange event goes smoothly. I don't want any more surprises like this."

Walter nodded vigorously, relieved that Brown wouldn't fire him on the spot. He knew he had to work twice as hard to make up for his mistake and regain Brown's trust.
