{INT. CONFERENCE TABLE, HELICARRIER BRIDGE � DAY}
[Steve, Tony, and Fury are gathered at a table. Hill stands to the side. Everyone there has a look as if in a daze. A look of numb shock is shown on their devastated faces. Fury pulls a handful of cards out.]
'He's gonna be so mad about his cards.' Tony thought.
NICK FURY: These were in Phil Coulson's jacket. [Fury throws Coulson's CAPTAIN AMERICA TRADING CARDS along with the SIGNED SUPERMAN TRADING CARDS on the table towards Steve. Steve picks them up, some STAINED WITH BLOOD.]
Coulson's eyes widened. His cards! "Those were in my locker." Coulson said.
"They needed the push." Fury said.
"Was me dying not enough?" He asked.
NICK FURY: Guess he never did get you to sign them.
"I'm sorry I never did." Steve said.
NICK FURY: We're dead in the air up here. Our communications, location of the Cube, Banner, Thor. I got nothing for you. Lost my one good eye. Think I had that coming. (A BEAT) [Fury begins to make his way around the table to Steve and Tony] Yes, we were going to build an arsenal with the Tesseract. I never put all my chips on that number though, because I was playing something even riskier.
'The Avengers.' Everyone but Steve, Maria, Coulson, Tony and Fury thought.
NICK FURY: There was an idea, Stark knows this, called THE AVENGERS INITIATIVE- [Fury reaches a chair between Tony and Steve] The idea was to bring together a group of remarkable people, see if they could become something more. See if they could work together when we needed them to, to fight the battles that we never could. Phil Coulson died still believing in that idea, in heroes. [Tony gets up and walks out, not wanting to hear it anymore.]
NICK FURY: Well, it's an old fashioned notion.
{EXT. REMOTE FIELD � DAY}
[Thor is making his way over to Mjolnir. He hesitates to pick it up, fearing he is not worthy again. He clenches his fist.]
{INT. ABANDONED BUILDING � DAY}
[Banner wakes up, naked, and in human form. He looks around and sees he is IN A PILE OF RUBBLE. There is a SECURITY GUARD standing over him.]
SECURITY GUARD: You fell out of the sky.
BRUCE BANNER (COMING TO): Did I hurt anyone?
SECURITY GUARD: There's nobody around here to get hurt. You did scare the hell out of some pigeons though.
