The Talk That Wasn't Really About Humans

"So, you guys came here to Earth because, well, when I first met you, you told me that," Ava started, then put on a voice that might've been her impersonation of them, "our world's going to be eaten by a terrible monster and we want to make sure the Earth is good so we can move here, right? And Y/N you..." Ava trailed off seeing the look in my eyes. I didn't need a reminder.

"Uh, that is correct," Rhys answered.

"But, it's kinda odd you guys haven't mentioned that again in the time I've known you. It sounds kinda urgent, don't ya think?"

"I... uh," Rhys said, looking for words.

"It is," supplied Asch calmly, "but we know our kingdom back home can handle the threat.

Don't think about home. Don't think about home. Don't think about home. Don't think about home. I tried with all my might to tune out that word.

"Nice save Asch," Noi complimented.

"Hmm, interesting. Why are you guys so off then?" Ava interrogated.

"What does that mean?" Leif questioned.

"I don't know you guys just act weird about things that are normal to me, but I guess you're from a different world so I can't really...."

"Act weird? Heh, look at yourself," said Leif.

"Huh?"

"You threaten us a lot, but you don't actually do things with your magic aside from flashing it at us," Leif stated smartly with a cocky smile on his face.

"I agree," piped up Asch, "and why are humans so docile? I haven't seen any of them try to kill each other or us."

"Wow, now that you mentioned it you're right," marveled Noi.

"In my world, there are assassins, and some of us try to kill each but the rest of the dragons are all pretty kind and get along. Sometimes there are wars but not often," I finally spoke. Asch looked down at me, considering what I had said.

"Yeah, like what Y/N said kind of, because we evolved not to do that kind of stuff. I mean, it still happens in the world I guess," Ava remarked. "We're just lucky enough to not have it that bad."

"Is that not common here?" Pierce inquired in his low-toned voice.

"I mean, it's not."

"Why are humans so calm?" Noi's curious voice spoke up.

"Isn't your world calm like this?"

"No, it's not!" Rhys burst out. "I mean, uh, why do you think we have a monster trying to devour it?"

"Oh, so you guys are like in the medieval ages," Ava said. I fought the urge to sigh. If internal sighing was a thing I was doing it. This conversation was getting nowhere.

"Yes," Rhys replied.

"Heh, you know you guys really scared my dads, I'm positive they're worried about me now more than ever."

"Is that a bad thing?" Noi's innocent voice queried.

"No, but I'm pretty sure they're gonna come around to check on me more often."

"What are we doing?" Asch questioned.

"Huh?" Ava turned her head to look at Asch.

"We aren't talking about anything of use here. This is nonsense and ramble. What use is talking like this?" Asch made a good point.

"My apologies Ava, but I've been thinking the same thing," I jumped in. Asch was secretly pleased that I agreed, I just knew it.

"It's what friends do I-" Ava cut off her sentence and gasped.
