The candidates stood in the mess hall. Luke stood in the middle. Adela stood on his right and Chris stood on his left. Clarisse and Annabeth stood along with a few others.

Chiron, Mr. D, and Percy stood in front of everyone. Chiron was explaining about why they were meeting.

"The oracle has confirmed what we expected, that his quest will proceed towards the Underworld, where you will confront the god who has rebelled against his brothers."

"Hades. The entrance to Hade's domain lies under the city of Los Angeles. This is where you will journey to. Time is short."

Chiron looked at everyone. "I have selected our most compelling candidates, from which you will choose two to join you on this quest and ensure that we succeed."

"Annabeth." Percy interrupted.

Chiron looked back at him. "Customarily, one waits to at least hear a name or two before choosing. Are you sure you don't wanna hear more?" He asked.

Percy looked at him. "This thing, Zeus's master bolt, we need to get it back, right?" He asked. "Yes." Chiron said. "And it's gonna be hard to get, yes?" He asked.

"Extraordinarily."

Percy continued on why he chose her. "And if the mission required someone to push me down a flight of stairs for it to succeed...you'd want someone who won't hesitate when they do it."

Adela thought his logic was...strange but Annabeth would be the person to do it.

Chiron looked at her. "The first quest-mate shall be Annabeth Chase!" He announced. "Now onto the other candidates."

Percy then went on the choose Grover.

They got dismissed and they started to walk away. "Adela." She turned to see Mr. D. looking at her. He motioned her to come by him. "Yes?" She asked, putting her hands behind her back.

"I've noticed those cuts you have. And I noticed you didn't get them from the game, so where'd you get them?" He asked her.

"I'm surprised you noticed." She said. "Hey, I notice things!" He said back to her. She raised her eyebrows at him and he sighed. "I notice some things." He said, exaggerating the word.

"There you go." She said and he narrowed his eyes at her. "You didn't answer my question." He said, crossing his arms.

"Well, after capture the flag, Luke and I went swimming and when I jumped in I got caught at the bottom and cut myself on the rocks. Luke jumped it and got me, and cleaned me up."

Mr. D. believed her lie and sent her on her way.

Luke caught up to her. "What did Mr. D. want?" She looked at him. "He wanted to know where my cuts came from." Adela said.

"And what did you tell him?" He asked.

"I told him that I got it from swimming. I got caught in the rocks and you jumped in and saved me. My little hero." She said, teasing him.

"Nice lie." He said and she smiled. "Thanks."

He grabbed her hand and led her to the Hermes cabin. "I want to give Percy something to help him for his quest." He said. "That's sweet of you." She said and he didn't say anything.
