Mastoorah

As we landed at the Karachi airport, I looked around at everything feeling like an intrusion here. I was fifteen years old at that time when Uncle Murtaza died spontaneously in a car accident. Then Aunt Hania had to come back to Pakistan with us.

As I took a breath in the warm environment of Karachi, I suddenly felt I didn't belong there. Like someone who came to a place without any invitation. The hustle and bustle even at the airport made me sick to the core. I always liked seclusion and quietness. My personality was very weird if I had to be honest with myself. In fact, many things in me were odd which I myself found astonishing and terrifying. Once I discussed these with Aunt Hania but when she hushed me off by saying it was all my intuition, I stopped telling this to her.

Aunt Hania took me and her children to her parents' house. She had a brother there. Uncle Zaryab; a gentle, nice, and caring man welcomed all of us wholeheartedly. His wife Aunt Javeria wasn't any less good than him.

"Oh Mastoorah. What a beautiful name.  This baby is so cute." She caressed my cheek and complimented this to Aunt Hania.

"My Mastoorah is exactly like her name so yes," Aunt Ayesha replied as she smiled proudly looking at me.

Aunt Javaria had a daughter too. Aliha who seemed shy, and quiet but like a younger version of her mother. She had black hair and black eyes. When Aunt Javaria asked her to greet me, she timidly shook hands with me.

But my heart wasn't happy here despite everyone being so nice. It had been two weeks since I had been living among these new people. Aunt Javaria, her husband, and her daughter were all very friendly. Aliha especially became my friend when her mother asked her to spend time with me and Sara; Aunt Hania's daughter. However, somehow I couldn't become loosen up even. I had a deep sadness rooted inside of me. The grief which was here without any bad thing. The low feeling which never left my side since I gained consciousness.

Water. The blue water was the only thing which was in my sight. There was nothing else. No boundaries, no land, nothing. Just water everywhere. Suddenly a blast sounded and the water got sprinkles of redness. Soon the red changed the color of the blue and there were hues and cries.

Sorrow. Loss and anger.
