"I had to do it to you"- inspired by Seek & Destroy, by SZA.

The sound of laughter echoed through my apartment as my friends rallied around me, determined to lift my spirits. They'd been here for me since the whole messy breakup with Max. It's been weeks since we last spoke, ever since those damning pictures surfaced. A lump forms in my throat just thinking about it.

But tonight, my friends weren't going to let me wallow in my misery any longer. They were insistent on dragging me out, and honestly, I couldn't find it in me to refuse. They'd brought over an array of snacks, drinks, and chick flicks, determined to turn this afternoon into a much-needed girls' date.

"Come on," Sarah chirped, waving a bag of popcorn in my face. "You can't stay cooped up in here forever. It's time to put on your dancing shoes and show the world what they're missing!"

I chuckled weakly, swatting away the popcorn. "I don't know, guys. I'm not really feeling up to it."

Emily, ever the optimist, placed a comforting hand on my shoulder. "You've been moping around for weeks. It's time to shake off that jerk and have some fun. You deserve it."

I couldn't help but smile at their unwavering support. Maybe they were right. Maybe it was time to stop letting Max's betrayal dictate my happiness.

"Alright," I relented, a newfound determination flickering within me. "Let's do this."

The atmosphere shifted as excitement filled the room. Before I knew it, my friends were bustling around, selecting outfits for me and bombarding me with makeup choices. It felt good to be surrounded by their energy, their infectious enthusiasm seeping into my veins.

As I slipped into a dress that was a little more daring than my usual style, I couldn't help but feel a spark of excitement ignite within me. Maybe tonight would be the night I finally let go of all the hurt and resentment weighing me down.

With one last glance in the mirror, I straightened my shoulders and plastered on a confident smile. Tonight wasn't about Max or the pain he'd caused me. Tonight was about reclaiming my happiness and rediscovering the girl I used to be before him. We stepped out into the cool night air, and I felt a surge of anticipation wash over me. The city lights twinkled like stars above us, beckoning us forward into the unknown. And for the first time in what felt like forever, I was ready to embrace whatever the night had in store for me.

The pulsating beats of the music enveloped us as we stepped into the club, the vibrant energy of the crowd washing over me like a tidal wave. The dimly lit interior was alive with swirling colors and bodies moving in perfect harmony. My friends wasted no time in dragging me onto the dance floor, their laughter mingling with the rhythm of the music.

I let myself get lost in the music, allowing the steady thump of the bass to drown out the thoughts of Max that still lingered in the recesses of my mind. With each sway of my hips and toss of my hair, I felt a weight lift off my shoulders, replaced by a newfound sense of freedom.

As the night wore on, we found ourselves surrounded by a sea of faces, each one a stranger yet somehow familiar in their own right. We danced with reckless abandon, our laughter echoing off the walls as we lost ourselves in the moment.

And then I saw him. Tall and handsome, with a mischievous twinkle in his eyes that drew me in like a moth to a flame. He moved with a confidence that was both captivating and alluring, his gaze locking onto mine as if we were the only two people in the room.

Without hesitation, he crossed the distance between us, his hand outstretched in invitation.

With a smile that bordered on reckless, I took his hand and allowed him to pull me into his arms. The music seemed to fade into the background as we moved together in perfect synchrony, our bodies moving as one to the rhythm of the music.
