Renee and you were married for seven years, high school sweethearts that thought you would spend the rest of your lives together, you gave birth to your first daughter, Aamerie at twenty three, Renee's music career was beginning to take off, and your career as a doctor was becoming more handle. At twenty five you gave birth to you and Renee's son, Carson, by that time you and Renee's relationship was beginning to crack, Renee's tours left her gone for months on end and your job kept you grounded also you didn't want the kids to miss school or miss out on important developmental parts of their child hood to travel with Renee.
It began to feel like you were a single married parent, while Aamerie was five and Carson was three you and Renee had decided to call a quite on the marriage, you both loved each other but were not there for each other in the way a couple needed to be.
"Why are we doing this? We can work through it." Was all Renee would say as the divorce proceeded, but deep down you both knew this was the only option.
Renee continued her music Career and even picked up acting, co-parenting was hard, Renee would FaceTime you to speak to the kids but that was the most she could interact with them whilst on tour and filming for her next big movie. From the new she met another woman, a guitarist. You couldn't be angry, it hurt yes but she waited two years and was already back out there whilst you were working day in and day out with work and school for the kids. The only thing you could do is be happy for her. You two had recently began speaking to another woman, a doctor in the neurology department, the two of you had met a few months ago at a coworkers party and hit it off immediately, she was a single mother much like yourself in a way it was more so comforting to be with someone who understood you.
"Mommy! Mama is calling!" Aamerie said running to you with her iPad, "she is darling? Why don't you answer it." You say as you scrambled through the kitchen cooking dinner. The sound of the FaceTime being answered and Renee's voice ringing thought the kitchen could be heard as Aamerie sat at the kitchen island to speak to her mama. "My baby girl! Someone has a third birthday coming up?" She joked making your daughter giggle "mama no! I'm gonna be seven!" The child giggled, Carson was down for his nap exhausted after playing outside most of the day.
"I miss you mama. Mommy is cooking! It's Lasagna!" "Ugh I miss mommy's lasagna." Renee said laughing, "I'll make sure i eat enough for you and me!" Aamerie chirped kicking her feet at the kitchen island. "Oh really? What if I want to eat my own serving?" The blonde smiled at the screen, the sound of a knock coming from the device and a knock from the front door made you stop what you were doing. Aamerie immediately picked up on the surprise jumping from her seat, "MAMA!!" The small girl yelled as she ran down the hall, well so much for not waking her brother up.
"Wait Aamerie!" You call out going to chase the girl but she had already opened the door revealing the woman you missed so much but was too afraid to admit it. It had been two years since you last seen her yet it looked like nothing changed about her. "Hai baby girl!" Renee laughed as your daughter jumped on her for a tight embrace. You were a little in shock, "what are you doing here?" You say still in disbelief that she even made time to be there. "I came to see my kids." She says softly, "I know I just- you should have called?" "I did." She shrugged walking in holding the girl. You frowned at her attitude.
"I meant call me." You say crossing your arms, "would you have answered?" That was fair, you had been avoiding her calls for a while now, you never knew what to say to her, do you two just casually talk after breaking the family apart that you two made? It wasn't your fault, atleast you didn't think it was. You just wanted her to make time for her family which she could never do. You wanted her to chase her dreams yes but to not push you all to the side while she did so.
"I'm sorry, that's on me." She says smiling she sat your daughter down then gave you a soft hug, "I missed you." She murmured and you nodded hugging her back, she still used the same perfume. Pulling away from the hug she smiled "the food smells amazing, you wouldn't mind if I stayed for dinner right?" You looked at her searching her eyes to see if she was joking, "of course. I don't mind it I'm sure the kids would love it." You muttered, she nodded smiling softly at you, "mama! I wanna show you my hogwarts Lego set! I built it all by myself!" Aamerie says grabbing her moms hand and pulling her away. You smiled softly watching the two vanish up the stairs, once they were out of sight you let out a slight sigh before going back to the kitchen to check on the lasagna.
