Maisie's behaviour was becoming more and more rapidly out of control. She was constantly being removed from her lessons for silly behaviour and her detentions and isolations were racking up.
Lucy and Keira didn't know what to do with her. She resisted everything they tried to make it work.
They'd gone through all the reinforcement and rewards for good behaviour and today they were going to trial putting in some proper consequences.
"Mais this can't keep happening. You need to understand that this behaviour isn't acceptable," Keira said.
"I don't care," she huffed. She was in a bad mood and really wasn't interested in what Keira had to say.
"Your behaviour has consequences so I'm afraid that you're grounded for the next two days and I'd like your phone please until then."
"No. I'm not doing that."
"Yes you are."
"I'm not."
This went backwards and forwards for a while, Maisie getting angrier and angrier. Her brain was clouded with nothing but fury and she couldn't control anything she said or did.
Keira didn't know what to do. She hated seeing her baby sister so worked up. Trying this when Lucy wasn't home was a bad idea.
"Fine have my stupid fucking phone," Maisie eventually yelled, taking it out her pocket and slapping into Keira's hand.
"Do you want anything else?" Maisie shouted, stomping upstairs and to her room.
"Do you want my football boots?" she screamed, chucking them down to the bottom of the stairs where Keira stood. They clattered onto the floor, narrowly missing the 24-year-old.
"Or my airpods? Or my trainers?" she continued, chucking each item as she said it.
She was now having a complete breakdown, taking everything from her room and lobbing it down the stairs one by one.
Keira stood, not knowing what to do.
"Please Mais. Calm down. You're going to hurt yourself," she begged.
"I don't fucking care!"
"Well I do. Please stop it."
It didn't work and Maisie's breakdown continued. She was so worked up and it was horrible to see.
Each item she threw added to the pile on the floor. Keira wanted to run up and stop her but didn't dare in fear of being hit by something.
Where was Lucy when she needed her?
Keira was dragged from her thoughts when she spotted the plate flying down the stairs. It landed with a smash on the floor, breaking into pieces.
"Shit Mais. Please take a breath. This isn't good for anyone."
Just at that moment, the front door opened and Lucy was home.
"What's going on? I heard the screaming from outside."
"She's so angry I don't know what to do," Keira said, trying to stop the tears from rising.
"It's alright. I'll deal with it."
Lucy began climbing the stairs, dodging the items that Maisie threw.
"It's alright. I'm coming."
"Go away Lucy!"
Lucy made it to the top of the stairs and got to Maisie's room, blocking the door so the teenager couldn't get out.
The room was a total shamble. It looked nothing like how it usually did. Drawers were wide open, all the clothes taken out of it. There wasn't the usual clutter on the sides as most of it was at the bottom of the stairs.
