To say Maisie was heartbroken was an understatement. She was trying to distract herself but it rarely worked and she was constantly thinking about Erin.

This brought huge emotions to the surface and it was hard to control herself. On the one hand she hated Erin. She had absolutely no right to turn on her. But on the other, she missed her so much. She felt a deep guilt. She hadn't meant to be annoying and unhelpful; she hadn't even realised that that's what she was doing. It was all her stupid brain's fault.

"Y'alright?" Kingsley asked as he came and found Maisie. She was meant to be going to a lesson but the fury had risen up and she decided to just bunk instead.

"Mhm," she replied.

"You sure?"

"Yeah."

"Look man I know shit's tough but you don't need a girl. If she's let you go then that's her fucking loss, yeah?"

Maisie looked up and began to laugh.

"What?" he asked.

"Nothing. It's just weird seeing you serious."

"I can be when I want to."

"Well I appreciate it. You're a good mate."

"Right back at you. Even if you're an annoying prick," he teased.

"I'm an annoying prick? Says you," she laughed.

It was finally the day that Maisie could get her cast off. The past three weeks had been absolute hell. Her mood had been completely awful and it wasn't nice to be around her.

She was either angry, which was scary, or she was in a silent dark shell, which was scary for other reasons.

"Come on then you," Tracy said, "Let's get that cast off."

They drove to the hospital and Tracy attempted to get a conversation going.

"Are you excited to be able to play football again?" she asked.

"I guess," she replied gloomily. If she was completely honest, without Erin in her life, nothing excited her.

"It'll be good to be back scoring though, won't it?"

"I suppose so."

In the end she gave up trying to get her to talk and put some music on to fill the silence.

Eventually they arrived and luckily it didn't take long to be seen.

She had to answer some questions and then finally, they cut the cast off.

Her hand had some bruising on it but the doctor reassured her that it would go down.

With everything sorted, they headed home.

"Should we get a Subway?" Tracy asked.

"Yeah alright."

They pulled up to the place and got the sandwiches they wanted.

"Mush I just want you to know that me and dad are always here for you. Whatever you need we're here okay," Tracy said as they ate.

Maisie nodded.

"I know."

"All we want to do is help."

They fell into silence.

"I hate who I am," Maisie said after a few moments.

"What?" her mum asked sadly, heartbroken at what she'd just heard.
