Could've happened to anyone

When Erin woke up the next morning, her girlfriend was still in her arms. She looked adorable and she didn't want to wake her up but she knew she had to.

"Morning gorgeous," Erin whispered, pushing the hair out of her face before kissing her gently on the forehead.

Maisie's eyes slowly began to open and she groaned. Deciding she didn't want to be awake, she shut them again and snuggled closer to Erin.

"I know you're tired," the older of the two giggled, "But we need to get up."

"I don't want to."

As she was only just waking up, Maisie wanted to have lots of cuddles and it took a while for the pair to actually get up and out of bed.

Eventually they got all their stuff ready and headed down to breakfast.

Her early exhaustion was gone and now Maisie was feeling good. She was ready to play today and she wanted to do well.

The match was just on one of the pitches at St George's Park so there was no travelling needed for the girls.

When they walked out for the warmup, Maisie spotted Keira and Lucy along with Leah and G sat in the little stand.

"Hey," she said, running over.

"Hey you," Georgia said, "How you doing?"

"I'm good. I'm ready to kick some arse."

"Maisie," Keira said when a few people looked their way.

"Sorry. I'm ready to kick some butt."

They chatted for a bit before Maisie ran back over to her teammates.

She was focused in on the warmup drills as she'd learnt from her mistake in Latvia to not be too hyper.

As it got close to kick off, they had to go back inside to then walk out of the tunnel. Erin was trying hard not to panic. She'd done pretty well to stay relatively calm until this point but now she was freaking out.

The change in her mood didn't go unnoticed and Maisie reached over and placed two calming hands on her shoulders.

"Everything will be okay. I promise you," she whispered so only she could hear.

With the help of her girlfriend, Erin slowly began calming herself down and by the time they were walking out, she was pretty relaxed.

Maisie spotted her mum and dad now also sat with the other four and she gave them a wave before they sang the national anthem.

The match kicked off and it was pretty deadlocked. Wales had two really quick strikers and Erin and the other defenders were being kept well on their toes.

They were handling it though and the score was still all square. Maisie was a bit frustrated that she wasn't getting the ball as much as she'd like but she didn't get too hung up on it; her time would come.

After playing twenty minutes and only touching the ball twice, Maisie was suddenly having loads of chances. She was raining chances down on the Wales keeper and it was frustrating that she was saving them all.

"Ahhh," she groaned as yet another powerful strike didn't burst into the net.

"You've got this mush," Lucy called from the side, "Your time's coming."

With those words, the fifteen-year-old took a deep breath.

At half time the score was still nil nil and England knew they hadn't played their best. Marie told them as much and gave them areas to improve.
