19~ Things Are Explained

Nathan

I should have gone after her. I should have had warriors follow her and protect her. I should have kept her safe. I shouldn't have let her go off on her own. I'm a terrible mate. First I scare the crap out of her, get lectured, then promptly lose her to Rogues.

We got the ones we captured to talk. The Rogues in her room were only a distraction. They were trying to lure her out of the pack house, and it worked. I couldn't believe we actually fell for it! Rogues would never be that bold to walk into the pack house and go undetected.

This whole ordeal nearly cost Nylein her life. I stared down at her, watching her fight for her life since she was brought back and put in a coma by her master. The wounds were severe; the Rogues had tortured her. She had many lacerations on her legs, wrists, and the sides of her throat. They wanted her to suffer.

Had I not opened my mind when I did, I wouldn't have heard her cries for help, nor would I have known where she was. It was almost too late when we finally got there. Froyln had to do on sight healing to stop the bleeding, then left the rest of the work to be done by the pack doctors once we returned.

What stuck out the most in my mind was the scene we saw when we found her. It wasn't her blood soaking her clothes and the floor that made us all freeze. It wasn't the Rogue that was slicing his knife all over her, and the others joining in.

No. It was the fact that Nylein had a wild look in her eyes, her teeth bared as she let out a slew of words in a language none of us could understand. Her hair was billowing out around her with an unseen force. Her voice, once sweet and innocent sounding, was harsh and it made my fur stand on end.

The amount of power in the air as she shouted at the Rogues was tangible. One could feel her magic filling the air with each word she spoke. It took some doing, but we were able to get into the room and take down the Rogues. It was as if the words she was speaking was sending out a near physical barrier that kept us from being able to get in and rescue her

I was the one who released her once we had the Rogues taken care of. The second she was free, she leaped to her feet, a white fire surrounding her fist as she raised it. I was actually afraid for my life. My own mate was going to strike me down.

What kept that from happening was her hesitation. We had locked eyes and she hesitated. It was as if she really could see me for only that short time. She stepped back, stood down, then blacked out from the blood loss.

That was when Frolyn worked over her to stop the blood. I noticed that as he worked over her, his hands were shaking and he kept muttering to himself. I couldn't catch what he was saying, but I know it had nothing to do with getting her somewhat stable and healed enough for the journey back.

I want to know what had happened there and why she was set on attacking me. What had gotten in to her to make her lash out like that? What happened to her? I have to get her to tell me when she wakes up.

"Nathan..." I looked up to see Frolyn standing in the doorway. "I need to speak with you."

I gave Nylein one last glance before standing and placing a light kiss on her forehead. I followed him out of the room and shut the door. "What is it, Frolyn?"

He took a deep, shaky breath. "It's... about what happened... I'm not entirely sure as to what happened back there, but it could be one of two things. The first one is that one of Nylein's ancestors has a strong hold on her and chooses to Possess her when the need arises. Or, and I really hope this isn't the case, her inner Sorceress is surfacing early."
