Today was Sunday.

Normally, I wouldn't have a problem with today. But today was different. The reason being was because Josh & I had to attend dinner with my dad & his new wife, Katherine. It wouldn't be a problem if Katherine wasn't there. I was under the impression that Katherine would still be on her vacation, God knows where, but my father informed me that she would be joining us. Oh, what fun.

Dinner was served.

The four of us ate in complete silence. The only sound being made was the sound of silverware hitting plates.

"So, Dad," I spoke. "Josh & I have some news for you."

"Oh?" my Dad replied. "Go on then."

I grabbed Josh's hand for comfort. "Well, there's not a right way to say this, so I'm just going to say it. I'm pregnant!"

My father set his fork down & wiped his mouth. "Yes, I'm aware of that. I just wanted you to confirm it."

"Wait, what do you mean you already know?"

"Your mother called & told me yesterday evening."

"Oh. Well, aren't you happy? You're going to be a grandad!"

"I wish I could tell you I was happy, Chelsea. I really do. Unfortunately, I'm not. So, there you go."

I stared at him with disbelief. To add to this shocker, Katherine had to speak up.

"I mean, you do know that premarital pregnancy can ruin a relationship, dear."

"Yeah, you know a lot about ruining relationships, don't you?" I spat.

"That's enough!" my father said, raising his voice. "Katherine is your stepmother & you will -"

"She is not my stepmother! She is nothing but the woman who tore my family apart & I refuse to give an ounce of respect because she doesn't deserve it!"

"Get out." my father told me quietly. "Both of you, please, just get out."

"Yeah, you don't have to tell us twice." I said, grabbing Josh's hand.

Josh & I got in the car & started driving back home.

"I don't want to want about it." I told him.

"That's fine." he replied simply. "But please, just don't get stressed. It's not good for you or the baby."

I didn't say anything else, but just looked out the window.

When we arrived home, I removed my coat & went straight up to our room. I wasn't sure if Josh followed me up, but at this point, I didn't really care. After I took my shoes off, I laid down on the bed & unlocked my phone. The only notifications I had were a few from my social media. Sighing, I put the phone on the nightstand. Just then, Josh walked in.

"Are you alright?" he asked me.

"Not really." I replied truthfully.

"I just don't understand why your dad reacted like that. I thought he would have been at least a little happy for us."

"Well, that's my dad for you. He's just unpredictable."

"You're telling me."

"I've always known that though." I said. "I mean, I remember one Christmas he just bought this really expensive sports car that my mum knew nothing about."

"Really?"

"Yeah." I said. "But that's not even the worst thing he's done."

"Come on, what's worse than spending a ton of money on something your wife doesn't even know about?"

"Leaving your wife & four daughters for a woman that's half your age."

It got really quiet after I said that.

"I don't think I ever knew that." Josh told me.

"Really?"

"No. I mean, I knew your parents are divorced, but I never knew that was the reason why."

"Yeah, well now you do."
