The power was still off. And we had no idea why.

When we woke up, we couldn't leave our dorm. Not because someone said so, but because we were locked in.

So we sat there in the pitch black and told Fay that Bonnie wasn't going to get her.

"I'm bored," I groaned, laying back on my bed. Or at least I think it was my bed.

"I know," agreed Fay. "I can't even draw."

"It's like we're blind," added Lea.

"Wait a second," said Gloria. "I can see you guys! And the room!"

"What?!" I exclaimed, her excitement contagious.

"I can't see anything," said Lea. "You must have night vision or something!"

"Awesome!"

Gloria? You can see?! said a voice in my head.

"Wha? Who are you? What are you?" Gloria was understandably confused. We all were, except for Fay.

"I'M MAXIMUM RIDE! I HAVE A VOICE IN MY HEAD!"

Yeah.

It's me, Sophie!

"Can you hear us?" I asked dumbly.

Of course. But Gloria seeing... It must mean she has, like, light powers like Jamie or something.

"Coooool!" Gloria drew the word out.

"Wait, so you can make light?" asked Fay. "Do it now, please!"

"Uh, I don't know how..."

In theory, she can. But it'd be a lot harder in real life.

"Yes, it would," said Lea, who probably knew from experience. I felt jealous that they had their powers already and I didn't have mine, but at least I was still Madeline. Not new and improved Madeline, but plain old normal Madeline.

It was strange because I had always wanted something cool and special about me to set me apart from others. I'd be special. But now... Now I just want my life back. I don't want to be sitting here in the dark, talking to someone inside my head, listening to bullets shattering through glass...

Wait, bullets?!

'OHMYGOSHWHATSGOINGON?!?!" screamed Fay.

Translation: Oh my gosh what's going on?!?!

"WHY ARE PEOPLE SHOOTING AT US?!?!?!" yelled Gloria.

"AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!" I screamed.

"EVERYBODY SHUT UP!" yelled Lea. No one listened. We just kept on screaming and yelling. "SHUSH!" she yelled even louder.

This time, we listened. "There are people with guns out there," Lea said insistently. "We don't know why they're here or if they're out to get us."

She didn't have to say any more. If they were here for us, then screaming would give us away.

I felt my way over to one of the bathrooms, closed the door, and crawled into the bathtub.

"Madeline?" whispered Gloria. "Where are you going?"

"I'm hiding in the bathroom," I whispered back.

"I'm joining you," said Fay. "This is sooo much worse than Bonnie."

"Lea? You coming?" Gloria wondered. There was silence. "Lea?" she repeated, more panicky.

"Oh. Sure." I'm guessing Lea had shrugged, but in the pitch black no one had seen her.

I crawled out of the bathtub and opened the door. "Over here," I called, holding the door open.

One person came in, then another, and finally the last person entered. I locked the door behind us and we all went into the bathtub.

"I want Bonnie," whined Fay. "He's much better than these guys."

"Why are we in this bathtub anyways?" asked Lea.

I shrugged, not caring that no one could see. "I thought it would be a better place to hide instead of out in the open."

"This had better not be a leaky bathtub," said Gloria.

I started laughing. I don't know why, but there was just something hilarious about the fact that we were sitting in a bathtub with this guy with a gun roaming the hallways outside our dorm, which was in an Institute run by mad scientists who kidnapped us, and Gloria's worrying about wether or not the tub was leaky.

Weird.

Suddenly, my laughter was cut off by a groaning noise, and the tub dropped into a dark pit of doom.

Double weird.

Oh, and AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
