I opened the door when there was a knock on it and was shocked and surprised to see Blake standing there with red eyes and tears streaming down his face. "Blake?" I asked before I instantly grew concerned when I didn't see Sky with him.

My heart skipped a beat before it started to pound harder and faster in my chest, and worry settled on me like a thick blanket.

Oh, God, please let her be ok...

"What happened? Where's Sky?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question, grabbing the door tighter and not moving out of his way.

Blake shook his head and rubbed his eyes, and his bottom lip quivered while sniffled. "Can I come in?" he asked, his voice cracking. He cleared his throat and shifted on his feet. "Please? I know it's not five yet, but I need to come in. I-I-" He shook his head while he trailed off, grimacing and another wave of emotion washed over him.

I frowned and slowly nodded before I moved out of his way so that he could enter my house. "Come in," I said, gesturing for him to go inside so that I could close the door and lock it behind him. "What happened?" I asked when he stepped in, and I quickly looked around outside to make sure that we were safe and alone before I closed and locked the door before I turned to look at him, biting back a small frown. "What's going on?"

"My mom happened," he said and shook his head, moving a hand through his hair and across his face. "That's what happened."

I blinked and blinked a second time, pressing my lips into a thin line. I didn't say a word and folded my arms across my chest while I waited for him to actually answer my question and not just saying that something happened with his mom.

Blake cleared his throat and licked his lips, and his whole face turned red while he shifted on his feet. "Ummm, can I get something to drink, please?" His face turned another shade of red, and I couldn't help but cock my head, amused that he was becoming bashful for some reason. "My mouth is a little dry."

"Of course," I said and nodded before I started to make my way to the kitchen with him following me. "Uncle Dalton and Mr. Dawson are here. They are in the kitchen."

Blake nodded and pressed his lips into a thin line. He didn't say a word, and I had a feeling that his whole body was shaking while his mind was going a mile a minute.

"There is also an off duty cop here, too," I said randomly, remembering the other male that was in my house checking in on everything. "Well, he just got off the clock and was checking in on everything before he made his way home to his wife and kids." I shrugged and grimaced, pressing my lips into a thin line.

"Why?" Blake asked, and his voice cracked and was filled with concern. He cleared his throat and licked his lips. "Is everything ok? Are the kids ok?"

"Yes," I replied and nodded in confirmation, and my heart grew warm when I heard the concern in his voice. "He was a family friend and had been the one to pick me up at school when my parents were... ya know..." I couldn't help but trail off while I grimaced and shrugged with my heart breaking into a million pieces. "He dropped me off at Uncle Dalton's house that night."

"Who?" Blake asked.

"Joshua Kendrick," I replied. "He actually lives in the neighborhood and has helped our family out a couple of times."

"And you trust him?" Blake asked and raised an eyebrow in question while he stared at my back. "Right?"

The hair on the back of my neck stood at attention, and a small shiver went down my spine when I felt as if something had gone wrong, which was why he was asking me these questions. "Why?" I asked, not giving him a response about me trusting this cop friend of mine or not. "What happened?"
