Blake nodded and started to stand, and I moved away from him so that he could do so. He grabbed my hand, as soon as he was finished standing, and he started to walk to the living room with me trailing behind him.
The three most important men in my life looked at each other before they stood and started to follow us into the living room.
Blake led me over to one of the couches and sat down while he pulled me down next to him.
I bit my lip to keep myself from busting out laughing, amused, and I placed my head on his shoulder while I watched the three men in front of me take the other seats that were in the room.
"Now," Mr. Dawson said and leaned back in his seat. He cleared his throat and placed one leg on the other before he put his hands on his legs. "Are you ready to tell us what is happening, Mr. Peterson? We might want to get people called before everyone else goes home, even though most people are home because it is the weekend."
Blake stayed silent and continued to weigh the pros and cons about telling them everything. His whole body was tense, and I couldn't help but lean my head on his shoulder while I waited for him to calm down and to tell the three men everything that had happened behind closed doors.
Finally, he sighed and slowly nodded while he shifted on the couch. "Are you sure that we will be able to live somewhere and not there?" he asked, and all three men looked at each other before they looked at him.
"Yes," Mr. Dawson replied and nodded in confirmation. "You two will not have to live there, and there is a chance that you both will be living with your coach." He gestured toward Uncle Dalton.
"And what if we want to live here?" Blake asked and raised an eyebrow in question while he looked at him. "I know that Bay has room for us to live with her at this house. We can car pool and everything else."
"You two can carpool with me, too," Uncle Dalton said and leaned back in his seat. "Unfortunately, due to the two of you being minors, there is a chance that you will have to live with me." He raised both eyebrows in unison and tucked his head closer to his chest, biting back a sad smile.
I instantly caught what my uncle was saying and nudged Blake to keep his mouth shut, and he instantly looked at me with a scowl on his face and narrowed eyes. "I can come visit there, and you both can visit here any time," I said with a shake of my head. "Officer Kendrick and Mr. Dawson doesn't need to know about that."
Blake blinked and blinked again, looking confused. He looked between the three men before he looked at me, not knowing what my uncle or I meant. He didn't say a word, and I could tell that he was nervous, worried even, because he wanted to ask what we meant but didn't.
I rolled my eyes and scowled, pressing my lips into a thin line. "We have two people that will have to tell others as to what is happening with a child," I said coldly and gestured toward Mr. Dawson and Officer Kendrick. "They can not know what's happening or going to happen because of that. It's mandated reporting."
Blake blinked and blinked again, confused. "But you lived on your own for years, Bay," he said and cocked his head to the side while he studied me. "How?"
I shrugged and grimaced, biting the inside of my lip before I sighed and leaned back in my seat. "I had decided to become emancipated," I said, "even though I knew that Uncle Dalton was safe and living there was fine."
Blake hesitated before he slowly nodded in confirmation. He cleared his throat and shifted in his seat while he looked at the men that were gathered in front of us. "So, my mom and dad have been leaving us on our own for a while," he said and grabbed my hand tighter. "They are never home, and when they are home, they are only there for a bit before they have to go somewhere else."
"And where do they go?" Mr. Dawson asked and raised an eyebrow in question. "Do you have anyone staying at the house with you?"
"They go on different work trips," Blake said and shook his head. "That is what they tell us, but they don't normally tell us what is going on with them." He sighed and moved a hand through his hair and across his face. "We do have a babysitter that is supposed to babysit us, well, now just Sky, and she has been doing it for years."
"And what is her name?" Officer Kendrick asked and raised an eyebrow in question while he studied him. "How old is she?"
"She's almost thirty-three right now," Blake said and shrugged, pressing his lips into a thin line. "She has basically been watching us for years, starting with me first and then with Sky starting when she was about two-years-old."
"And her name is..?" Officer Kendrick asked and raised an eyebrow in question while he studied me.
"Marley Freeman," he said. "Her name is Marley Freeman. She was the one that has basically been watching over us for a long time and has basically been a mother to us unlike our mother."
"And does Marley have a basic job that she does besides babysitting you?" Mr. Dawson asked, and Blake nodded in confirmation. "Has she left you all alone while she was doing her work and everything?" he asked.
Blake didn't say a word and hesitated, and a look of worry and nervousness flashed through his eyes. He grabbed my hand a little tighter but didn't grab it so hard that it would leave a bruise.
"I think he is worried that she will get into trouble," I said after I glanced at Blake before I looked at the three men that I considered to be my family. "That is why he does not want to say anything about her."
"Nothing is going to happen to her," Officer Kendrick said and shook his head. "We are trying to make sure that we get everything documented to make sure that we can get your sister out safely."
"And to put you both in protective custody," I added, and Officer Kendrick nodded in confirmation.
"And will she go to jail for child endangerment and abandonment?" he asked and raised an eyebrow in question while he studied me.
"Who?" Uncle Dalton asked and raised an eyebrow in question while he studied him. "Marley or your mom?"
"My mom," Blake replied and shook his head. "Is she going to be going to jail?"
They didn;t say a word and looked at each other before they looked at us, not knowing what to say or how to answer his question.
"They aren't able to say anything about that, Blake," I said and shook my head, and Blake looked at me. "There is a chance that she will be, but there is also a chance that she won't. The police are going to have to do an investigation and everything with it, which Officer Kendrick can't really be the lead on because he is close to it."
"However I can suggest stuff and whatnot," he said, shooting me an annoyed look, which I ignored with a small smirk on my face before he looked at Blake. "But that is if you want to go ahead and tell us everything without stopping, Mr. Peterson."
"It's also almost five, and dinner will be done shortly, so the quicker that you get all of this done, then the quicker we can get Sky back here and get dinner," I added.
Blake sighed and nodded. "Ok," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I will tell you everything that has happened and more."
And with that and without another push from anyone, he told them everything that had happened and what had occurred after they had left my house and went back to their home.
Hang in there Sky, I thought while I listened to Blake's tale. Help is on the way.
I promise...
