I looked at Blake and frowned, not liking the idea that he was in this trancelike state, and my heart ached for the man that I called my friend and potential lover. "Blake?" I asked and turned until I was facing the glassy eyed male that didn't seem to be paying attention to anything or anyone. "Blake, can you hear me?"
"Un huh," Blake said, and I couldn't help but snort and roll my eyes because I had this feeling that he wasn't able to hear me at all or at least was aware enough to know what was going on.
I bit back a tired sigh and moved a hand through my hair and across my face before I shook my head and rubbed the bridge of my nose. "Come on, Blake," I said and held out my hand for him to take. "Do you think you can stand? I am going to take you to my room so that you can get some rest and hopefully get out of whatever funk you are in."
"Un huh," he said but didn't stand like I wanted him to, and I had to hold back an eye roll and press my lips into a thin line while I tried to come up with a way to get him to stand and do what I wanted him to do.
I sighed and shook my head before I leaned over to him and placed a small kiss on his cheek, silently hoping that would wake him up because I did not want to do the other two options in which one of them was where I kissed him on the lips while the other meant slapping gently across the face to wake him up that way.
And thankfully, I didn't have to do either of them because Blake seemed to stir as soon as I placed a kiss on his cheek, and he touched the spot where I had kissed him while he looked at me with a small frown on his face and furrowed brows.
Instantly, my cheeks turned red, and I took a step back to get away from him because I had no idea what he was thinking or feeling, especially since I had kissed him when it was something that I wouldn't have normally done. I placed my hands behind my back and tucked my head closer to my chest, not sure how he would react and grew nervous when all he did was stare at me with a frown on his face.
Blake blinked and blinked again while he furrowed his brows closer together. "Did you kiss me?" he asked and cocked his head to the side, his voice barely above a whisper. He kept his hand on his cheek and searched my face for something that I did not know I had. "Did you kiss my cheek, or am I imagining things?"
I hesitated before I slowly nodded, deciding that it would be best if I didn't lie to him, even though I had no idea how he would react. "Yes," I said, my voice barely above a whisper before I cleared my throat and shifted on my feet, trying but failing to relieve some of the tension that I felt. "I kissed your cheek. I-I I'm sorry. I-" I stopped talking as soon as Blake shook his head, interrupting me, and I stared at him with my mouth growing dry and eyes wide.
"Don't," he said. "Don't apologize to me for doing that, Bay. I know that you were trying to help." He looked around before he looked at me and frowned when he noticed that we were alone. "Where is everyone?" he asked and cocked his head further to the side, changing the subject. "Why are we alone?"
"They went to get some work done," I said and rubbed my hands together, hesitating ever so slightly. "They're going to get your sister and then get all of the legal shit taken care of to make sure that she stays safe and will be able to be here."
"Without us?" he asked and furrowed his brows further together, and I nodded. He frowned and searched my face for answers, and I could tell that he did not like the idea of them working on everything without us being near them. "Why?"
"Because you were basically passed out and numb, staring into oblivion, and they don't want me to do anything because they are afraid that it would break my cover." I shrugged and grimaced, pressing my lips into a thin line.
Blake sighed and moved a hand through his hair and across his face. "Ok," he said and shook his head, trying to relieve some of the strain and exhaustion that he was feeling. "What are we going to do now?"
"Well, I am going to put you in my room and then get dinner finished for everyone," I said and held back an eye roll. "We'll get you two set up into different rooms later because I'm going to need to get beds and whatever for them. Those men are going to take care of your sister and get her out of the house before the day is through. They might try to see if they can't have you get emancipated or just have Uncle Dalton "adopt" you both but have you live here if you want to."
Blake blinked and blinked again while he let whatever it was that I told him sink in. "Will they be fine with that?" he asked and raised an eyebrow in question while he studied me, and I nodded in confirmation and offered him a warm smile.
"They will be fine with it," I said and shrugged. "We can talk more about it later when Sky is out of your mother's house and somewhere safe. Let's go ahead and get you put up to bed, ok? After your nap, then you can get something to eat because dinner will be ready by then."
Blake sighed and slowly nodded, moving a hand through his hair and across his face before he rubbed the bridge of his nose. "Ok," he said. He grabbed my hand and started to walk to my room without a fight, and I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow in question, shocked and surprised while I followed him.
My boyfriend hesitated and looked at me before he cocked his head to the side. "What?" he asked when I looked at him, and a small smile appeared on his face. "What is with the look on your face for, Bay?"
"You aren't fighting me," I said with a shake of my head. "I thought you would be fighting me on that."
Blake hummed and slowly nodded, biting back a tired sigh while he sunk in on himself, and I couldn't help but frown while I looked at him. "I am exhausted," he said, his voice barely above a whisper, "and I don't want to argue with you..."
I bit back a small hum before I slowly nodded. "You must be very tired, then," I said, offering him a tight smile. "Or are you just numb and don't want to deal with anyone or anything?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question while I looked at him. "It's fair if that is how you feel and want to do."
Blake sighed with relief and slowly nodded in confirmation. "Thank you," he said. He pulled me closer to him and gave me a hug, and I hugged him back while I buried my face into the crook between his shoulder and his neck. "You are the best thing that has ever happened to me, Bay." He pressed his lips to the side of my head, and I smiled and closed my eyes. "I hope that you know that."
"I do know that," I said and closed my eyes tighter. "And you are the best thing that has ever happened to me, too. I appreciate you and all that you have done for me."
Blake bit back a small laugh and nodded. "Me too, Bay," he said while he placed another kiss to the side of my head while he rubbed my back. "Me too."
