I hesitated, not believing that they would be able to help me with this. My whole body was tense, and my heart ached and became filled with pain and sadness.
I didn't say a word while I stared at them, not believing them at all and wondering what they could do, especially since my sister was still there where she could get hurt by our mother.
Or worse...
My heart skipped a beat before it started to pound harder and faster in my chest, and my mouth went dry.
"Blake?" Bailey asked, her voice barely above a whisper while she looked at me, and I turned to look at her with tears filling the corner of my eyes. Worry flashed through her eyes, and a small frown appeared on her face, studying me.
I bit back a small sniff and blinked back tears that wanted to fall. I didn't say a word, and my bottom lip started to quiver. Tears pricked the corner of my eyes, and I tried but failed to stop a tear from falling from my eye.
Her gaze grew softer while she stood and started to walk over to me, and when she reached me, she pulled me into a hug in front of the men that she called her family. She didn't say a word and hugged me tightly, and I hugged her back while tears started to stream down my face.
Oh thank God for someone like her...
Still, she didn't say a word and rubbed my back while she waited for me to calm down and stop crying.
"What do you know, Bay?" Coach Barker asked and looked at his "niece," and a small frown appeared on his face. "I believe that you know something, correct?"
"I do," she said and nodded in confirmation. She squeezed my back and cleared her throat while she licked her lips, hesitating ever so slightly. "His mom came back home, and she called him to have him bring his sister back home."
"And where were they before they were called to go home?" Mr. Dawson asked and raised an eyebrow in question while he studied me before he looked at her.
"Here," Bailey said and shook her head. "They have been here to help me with moving and unpacking. I was supposed to be cooking a meal for them because their mom had been a little suspicious of me."
"Why?" Mr. Dawson asked.
"Because she has kids," I said, and my voice cracked before I cleared my throat and licked my lips. I grabbed my girlfriend tighter, silently praying that she wouldn't pull away from me like I thought she would after I said this. "My mom told me that she thought Bay was a whore," I said, my voice barely above a whisper, "because she had kids that range from ten-years-old to four-years-old."
"Does she think that they are biologically mine?" Bailey asked, with a small laugh in her voice. "She does realize that I would have to be eight-years-old to have Ryan, right?" She pulled away from me, and I begrudgingly let her go, even though I didn't want to.
She placed her hands on my cheeks before she wiped my eyes, and I couldn't help but close my eyes and grab her hands. "You do realize that I am not a whore, right?" she asked and raised an eyebrow in question while she studied me, and a small teasing smile appeared on her face.
I opened my eyes and looked at her with a small stink eye, and she grinned, amused.
"You better not be, Bailey," Officer Kendrick said with a gruff tone in his voice. "It's bad enough that it seems you are in a relationship with a boy now." He gestured toward me, and Bay held back an eye roll.
"Who Uncle Dalton knows and trusts," she said and gave him a pointed look while she raised both eyebrows in unison, and Officer Kendrick rolled his eyes and pressed his lips into a thin line.
My girlfriend chuckled and shook her head, and she pulled her hands from my cheeks, much to my annoyance. She placed a small kiss to my cheek before she looked at the men gathered before her. "Should we go ahead and talk in the living room?" she asked and raised an eyebrow in question while she studied them.
"But what about dinner?" someone asked from the stairs, and we turned that way to see Michael laying on the stairs, with a small pout on his face and arms folded across his chest. "What are we going to do about dinner?"
"Dinner is still cooking," Bailey said with a small scowl on her face. She narrowed her eyes and looked at the young boy that was under her care. "Go back down and continue to bug Trevor. We have to discuss some stuff before I call you up for dinner. Ok?"
"And what happened?" Michael asked. He looked at me to see that I had been crying, and a small frown appeared on his face before he looked at Bailey. "Did something happen to Sky?" he asked, and I could hear this protectiveness in his voice that I didn't quite understand.
"This is grown up talk, Michael," she said and shook her head, biting back a small scowl. "Go ahead and go downstairs. Is that understood?"
He rolled his eyes and scowled, pressing his lips into a thin line before he pointed at me. "Well, he is not a grownup," he said and pointed at me. "He is not eighteen, and you are barely eighteen yourself, Bailey."
"Michael Adam Pierce!" she said, with a cold, yet calm voice that I had never heard from the young female, and Michael's eyes grew wide while his face grew pale. "Go down stairs and stay there until I call you up for dinner. Is that understood?"
Michael gulped and hesitated. "Ok," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I'm sorry, Bay." He closed the door and started to run down the stairs as if he thought Bailey would run down after him.
Bailey huffed and rolled her eyes before she turned to look at us. "Now, let's go ahead and go sit down in the living room so that we can talk about everything." She looked at me and bit back a small smile while she tucked her head closer to her chest. "I know that you are scared about telling them everything, but you have to. The quicker we get this done, then the quicker we can get Skylar out of your mom's house. Ok?"
I hesitated before I slowly nodded and blinked back the rest of the tears back from my eyes. "Ok," I said before I cleared my throat while I shifted in my seat. "Are you sure that it will help?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question while I studied her.
She bit back a smile and slowly nodded. "Yes," she said. "It will help because they will be able to do anything in their powers to help you. I promise."
