Chapter 4 » how to get away with murder and fall in holes

"I told you he was up to something" Stiles whispered as Theo stepped out of his car.

"We just spent three hours watching this dude play video games in his bedroom. He better be out here covering up a mass murder" Liam said.

I shrugged. "Let's find out"

"You still got his scent?" Stiles asked Liam and I.

"Don't need it" I pointed at the tracks on the ground.

We continued on, following the footprints, until we realised Liam had stopped.

"What? What's wrong?" Stiles asked.

"I forgot, I was supposed to meet Mason at the school gym"

"Okay, why didn't you just tell him?" I said.

"Tell him what?"

"Anything" I said in a duh tone.

"I can't just tell him anything" Liam reminded.

"Why not?" Stiles asked.

"Because I haven't-I haven't told him everything" Liam said.

"Still? We said it was okay" I reminded.

"Yeah, I know, but it's not that easy. It's a lot to accept" Li argued.

"He watched my dad blow up a Berserker with a land mine. I think the groundwork's been pretty thoroughly laid for acceptance" Stiles said. "Scott and I have been through this. Okay? More than once. It's always been better when they know"

Liam sighed and pulled out his phone whilst we continued walking.

"But what if he freaks out? What if he doesn't want to talk to me? What if he tries to stab me with something silver?" Liam rambled. "Or what if-"

There was a loud thud and Stiles and I paused.

I turned around and noticed Liam had completely disappeared.

"Wh-" Stiles started as we headed back over to where Liam last was.

I looked down and saw him in a hole.

"What the hell are you doing?" Stiles asked.

Liam shook his head.

I heard footsteps in the distance. "There he is" I nudged Stiles.

"Hurry up" Stiles told Liam. "Stop screwing around"

"Pfft like he meant to fall in there" I defended as I followed Stiles.

"Try and get his scent" Stiles said as we paused behind a tree.

"This is ridiculous" I commented.

"Get anything?"

"Soap" Liam spoke up from beside me. "It's nice"

"It smells good" I added.

"Not his soap, his emotional state.
Chemosignals, remember?" Stiles said.

"Oh, yeah" Liam mumbled. "Okay.
He's sad"

"He's sad?" Stiles frowned.

"Well, not just sad. It's more like grief" I said.

"Grief?"

My friends eyes widened and his voice literally went an octave higher.

"Oh, my God! - Go! We have to go" he pushed me away.
