Well, here is our reaction to episode 5....ugh...

Episode 5

Woman saying another killed her own men, including Leon

Slinky: Not Leon Kennedy!

RJ: *chuckles*

After one of the women explains what happened to her team in the hospital basement

Slinky: This show does a lot of telling and not showing.

RJ: Yeah, like how cool would it have been to see a montage of that from Leon's perspective.

Dina using the maps to try and figure out where to go while Ellie is happy go lucky

RJ: Shouldn't these roles be reversed?

Slinky: That's what I was thinking. It feels like only Dina cares about getting revenge.

Background song called Vanishing Grace (Innocence) plays.

RJ: Okay this song is misplaced. Because it's very hopeful like how it played in the giraffe scene in the first game and this scene is very somber.

Slinky: *chuckles* Your rant reminded me of that vine of the guy going "that is not correct. Because according to the encyclopedia.."

RJ: *chuckle* Look, I listen to the Last of Us soundtrack a lot, especially when I read, and I know the music and where they are placed in the game 😆

Ellie starts to sing Future Days but stops

RJ: How would Ellie know that song? It came out in 2013 and they pushed the pre-apocalypses back to 2003. Explain Neil!

Slinky: *chuckles*

Ellie to Dina: Let's go be reckless.

Slinky: Is that anything new for you two?

RJ: *snicker*

Dina talking about her first kill and how that's influencing her motion

Slinky: Again why is Dina acting more vengeful than Ellie?

RJ: That's what I'm thinking, this should be Ellie.

Ellie saying she wants to keep going.

RJ: God, you are so fucking stupid. Just tell her to go back to the theater. Anything can kill that baby. Especially that early in the pregnancy.

Ellie and Dina puppy dog eyes after Dina said "I love you"

Slinky: God, I'd rather be watching the rest of Gilmore Girls than this.

RJ: I'd rather be playing the game than this.

Someone coming to save Ellie and Dina

Slinky: Is it my beloved Jesse?

RJ: I think it is. Is it bigot sandwich guy?

*It's revealed to be Jesse*

RJ & Slinky: *cheer*

Slinky: How did you know we were in here?

RJ: *chuckle*

Ellie hiding in the tree trunk from the Scars

RJ: Wow, that was actually really smart, Ellie.

Slinky: So, there is a brain in there!

Ellie picking up the pipe before going to use it on Nora

RJ: Ah, old reliable pipe! Now just get some tape and scissors and you'll have four extra hits!

Slinky: *laughs*

Ending shot of Joel for a flashback

RJ: There he is! There's the man.

Slinky: It was all a dream.

Critiques

The way they brought up spores was more a tell don't show until at the end with Ellie and Nora.

Ellie is acting way too happy go lucky while Dina is the more tactical one.

Ellie becoming rage full is jarring when she's been nothing but happy.

Feels like they're mixing two things together and it isn't doing well.

Dina putting herself in danger during her first trimester is very stupid of her and Ellie.

This show is going so bad it's making us miss the game!

The whole Nora scene doesn't hit like in the game. Ellie looked more crazy and psychotic than angry.

I don't know what the hell they're doing to Ellie as they're making her stupid in this show. I mean Dina is acting more like game Ellie than Ellie. I mean, it was shown in the first season Ellie has gone to school which was taught by FEDRA and then she spent almost a year with Joel, so she should know these surviving skills!

I also think it's funny that they're now bringing spores when back in the first season, Craig and Neil basically said "oh it's not realistic" and "it's hard to get emotions out of actors wearing masks." (Which means either you're a bad director or you don't trust your actors abilities).

As I've said before, Ellie comes off more as crazy and psychotic than angry during the Nora scene (it was the same thing with Pedro in the first season when he did the interrogation scene in the winter episode and he was bad at that as well) and it was kinda whiplash she went from just happy and jokey to rage. And also Bela still looks too young to play an angry young adult and she's just played Ellie too much as happy go lucky the last couple of episodes. It's like she forgot why she's there.

The show has actually made me appreciate the game (which the story is still bad but at least combat and gameplay was fun).

It's just kinda sad cause I was kinda enjoying the show but now....it's just gone so bad. Is it as bad as the game? I'm not sure right now, it just depends how these last two episodes play out (and it's probably not gonna be good cause next episode is a big flashback episode and then the finale!)

This is how we are feeling right now with the show: Slinky is Jon and I am Arin.
