I met someone today, someone unlike anyone else I have ever met. He was odd and unique, but for some reason, I didn't feel uneasy in his presence. I could tell that this man was cunning and creative, and he had this brooding yet soft smile that could make any girl weak in the knees. He was stunning, with his piercing blue eyes, deep black hair, and mesmerizing singing voice, I couldn't help but smile whenever I saw him. I knew he could be dangerous too, though. For this man was a pirate, and not only was he a pirate, but he was the captain of his ship. I had heard tales of him through my family, as we were royalty and always falling victim to pirates' schemes. They said he was the worst of the lot, willing to do anything to get revenge on my family for what we did to him. They never told me what that was, though, I was always left in the dark.
I met the pirate shortly after I stepped foot out of my castle doors. I had planned on going for a stroll on the castle's grounds, but those plans were cut short when I was snatched by his crew and whisked away to his boat. I'll never forget the look in his crew's eyes, daring and mischievous as if they did this often, which they probably did. I was almost shocked at the swiftness and speed at which they pulled my capture off. One second I was walking and the next I was being shoved upside down into a burlap sack and heaved over one of their muscular shoulders. I flailed around for a few minutes before I realized that struggling was probably useless and that giving in was the best option. After what felt like forever swaying back and forth, I was finally placed down. A small hole opened up at the top of the sack and suddenly a face came into view. I knew immediately from the stories that it had to be the captain. He was ruggedly handsome, with a face that was scarily welcoming.
"Hello love," he crooned, in a thick Irish accent. "If I let you out now, do you promise to behave?"
I nodded, unable to form words. Before I knew it, I was being dumped on my head onto the solid wood flooring of his ship.
"Ow," I muttered, rubbing my temples.
"Sorry, love, didn't mean to drop you so hard," he apologized.
"I'm sure you didn't. What do you want from me?" I asked.
"Let's just say that you're helping me get some much-needed revenge,"
"Revenge?"
"Yes, on people that wronged me a long time ago."
I tilted my head in questioning but didn't push any further.
"Now," he started, "we need to get you into some proper clothes. You'll be here for the foreseeable future and I want you to be comfortable."
I looked down at my poofy dress and wondered what was wrong with it. I wore things like this nearly every day, it was comfortable for me. I was sure that the captain had other ideas for me, though.
Sure enough, he did. The next hour was spent with me being jostled around the ship, trying on different hats and outfits, and figuring out the best fit for me. Finally, we decided on some black pants, a white frilly top, a black corset, and a dark leather hat. I felt a little uncomfortable with my outfit but knew it was going to become my new normal and I would have to get used to it.
"So, now that you're dressed, I'm assuming you want to know more about what I plan to do with you," he said, looking me up and down.
"Well to be completely honest, I really just want to know your name. I've heard many stories of you from my family, but they never mentioned a name," I replied honestly.
"Jones. Captain Killian Jones,"
"I would say it's nice to meet you, Killian Jones, but under the circumstances..." I trailed off.
He chuckled. "You're funny, Bethany,"
"You know my name?"
"Of course I do, I always have targets. I don't just go capturing random people off the streets,"
"Makes sense. So, what do you want with me, then?"
"Well, you already know that you're going to help me get revenge, but for now, you're going to help my crew keep the ship in tip-top shape," he said with a smirk.
I looked into his eyes, and for some reason, I felt comfort. I'd like to believe that he shows signs of regret for taking me, but even if he does regret it, I'm still his prisoner. So far he hasn't been that terrible, though, which is surprising to me. According to the legends I'd been told, pirates are ruthless and will stop at nothing for their next kill. But these weren't the blood-thirsty ravagers I had been told about, not in the slightest. They were dedicated and honest, still treating me like a lady even though I was their prisoner.
The day passed by slowly as I helped out with the chores around the ship. If I'm being honest, this was all so new to me, as I had servants for these sorts of things. Killian ignored me for most of the day, which was fine, but I was drawn to him for some strange reason. I had this feeling that I wanted to know more. I wanted to know about his past, and what happened that was so terrible he felt like he had to kidnap me to get revenge. I kept my mouth shut though, for fear of making him mad. I wasn't the brightest, but everyone knows you don't purposefully anger a pirate.
Right before I was about to get changed into the nightgown left out for me and get settled into bed, I heard a knock at my cabin's door.
"Come in," I responded, surprised that whoever was on the other side of my door had enough manners to knock.
"Sorry to keep you from your sleep, but I just wanted to say you did a good job today on the ship. For someone who has never lifted a finger before and has always gotten what she wanted, you did well," Killian complimented.
"Well for someone who was raised on the pirate lifestyle and has a ragtag group of misfits for crew members, I just wanted to say that I'm surprised you knocked before entering my cabin,"
"Hey, I may just be some pirate to you, but there's a whole side of me you don't know. I do have manners," His tone was joking but for a second I thought I could see some pain flash through his eyes.
"Well, will I ever find out this side of you?"
"You're funny. Have a good night and I will see you bright and early tomorrow morning," he said before leaving and closing the door behind him.
I watched him leave and stared at the spot in the room where he had stood. I pondered the reasons as to why he might have captured me, but my mind went blank. What could my family have possibly done to hurt Killian so badly? He was so mysterious, and I knew I wasn't going to get the truth out of him anytime soon, so I might as well give up for now. I would just keep my mouth shut, my head down, and do what I was told until he decided he didn't need me anymore, whenever that might be.
A/N: This novel is currently in the process of being edited, and I am hoping to make it more mature than it was when I wrote it at the age of fourteen. I am adding my new writing style to it and hopefully making it longer than it was originally. I might even change some of the topics or storyline, I am currently unsure. All the best!
