More Than Sex

"He's pretty hot. If I wasn't a lesbian I'd be daydreaming about him." Charlie snickered as she playfully shoved Cas' shoulder.

"Shut up." Cas gritted through his teeth as he ducked his head to hide from the redness bursting across his cheeks.

Mostly every night since Charlie and Cas had moved to Kansas for college they had started to frequent a certain bar that might or might not also be frequented by a man that Castiel couldn't keep his eyes off of. In all reality he hated bars. He hated the feeling that he was being checked out because he wasn't interested in anyone. Through most of his life there hadn't been many people to ever catch his eye except this tall green-eyed man who was now taking a seat at the bar only an earshot away from where Cas sat with his best friend.

"You should talk to him." Charlie motioned to the bartender for another round at their table. "What is there to lose?"

"Other than having him laugh in my face, or him expect a one-night stand?" Cas scoffed as he drowned his fourth beer. "He's just a pipe dream."

Charlie deadpanned as her eyes watched like a hawk as the stranger turned his head and seemed to scope out the place. "I've never seen him leave with someone. Maybe he isn't here for sex."

"Everyone is here for sex."

"You aren't."

Cas sighed deeply. "Yes. And why would a guy who looked like a sex-god be interested in a socially awkward asexual? He could have anyone in his bed. Men like that don't simply have relationships without sex. It isn't how the world works."

Charlie was about to argue when her eyes met green eyes and she grinned. Before she could stop herself she waved her hand at him signaling for him to join them. The man raised his eyebrows but the moment the eyes moved and seemed to be stuck on Cas, the guy was getting up from his bar stool and heading over.

"No way." Charlie didn't believe it but she didn't say anything as she sat back and waited for Cas to realize what was happening.

"What-" Cas' face drew up in confusion.

"Mind if I join you?" A deep voice came from Cas' left.

His head twisted up to look at whose voice it had been. When he saw who it was, his jaw dropped and everything in his body suddenly tensed and shut down. Looking like a complete idiot he gripped tightly to his beer and cleared his throat.

"We don't mind at all." Charlie came with the save. "Have a seat. I'm Charlie."

"Dean." The man took a seat beside Cas and settled in with a charming smile, his eyes fixated on Cas'.

"Ca-Castiel." Cas ducked his head to keep from having a heartache at the sight of those eyes focusing on him and him alone.

"Nice to meet you. I've seen you guys here before." Dean shifted a little. "The bar is kind of dirty but the beer is cheap and most of the time the company ain't bad."

"Cas has his eyes on someone." Charlie grinned deviously before leaning against the table and winking at Dean when she knew Cas wasn't looking. "That's why he drags me here almost every night."

"Really?" Dean smirked a little before turning his full attention back to the shy mess that was Castiel. "Who is it? I know most everyone here and I'd be happy to talk to them for you."

"Uh-" Cas finally raised his eyes and met Dean's. "That's okay. I-uh-I don't actually think it would work out."

Dean tilted his head with intrigue. "And why's that?"

"I-I-" Cas' voice died in his throat before it could shake too badly. "I just-"

"He's afraid his sexuality isn't compatible with this certain someone." Charlie let her smile settle as she watched the way Dean seemed to study Cas with looks of warmth.

"Charlie-" Castiel started in a warning tone.

"Sexuality, huh? I guess that would be tough. Most nights I hit on guys they are straight. Some of the women I hit on are gay. But you never know until you try." Dean grinned when he saw the way Cas seemed to mull over what he had said. "Bisexuality ain't easy but I don't let that hold me back."

All Cas could feel was defeat. Why would someone like Dean, who could have any woman or man in his bed, be with someone who wasn't even into sex? There was no way this could work. With a frown Cas nodded. "Asexuality is a bit more challenging."

"Oh." Dean's eyes widened but soon he melted back into his charming smile. "I'm sure whoever you are interested in who be open to you and your sexuality. Sex ain't everything, right?"

Charlie, now feeling as though she was intruding on something intimate, made a small sound and got up from the table to head toward the bathroom. Even though she was dying to know how this played out she knew Cas needed to do this on his own.

"I don't think so." Cas stared down at the empty beer in front of him, unable to look in Dean's eyes. "But many people do. It's why I... don't try to like people."

"That seems like an awful way to go through life." Dean inched a little closer but kept a safe enough distance. "I wish I had the restraint not to like people. Cause I've been seeing this guy in this very bar for almost a week now and I can't get him out of my mind. He's gorgeous, the kind of man that is almost too gorgeous to ever be lonely. And his eyes are so deep I feel like I could get lost in them if I got the chance. So the thing is, his friend invites me over to their table and we get to talking. He's so shy that I can't help but fall a little bit more for him. When he blushes it makes my heart stop. And he tells me that he doesn't think a certain guy he is crushing on will like him just because he isn't interested in sex. It blows my mind because a guy like him should never deny himself a happiness such as having a relationship without sex."

Castiel's eyes widened comically as he met Dean's eyes with the air being knocked out of his lungs. "What?"

Dean's smile radiated a safe feeling that made Cas melt back into his chair. "How about we blow this joint and grab some food? The food in this place is awful and I could go for a burger."

"But I'm-"

"Adorable. And I'd like the chance to get to know you better."

"Dean, before you do this you need to understand that I'm not interested in sex. Ever. And if you want to... further this with me then-"

"I understand." Dean winked at him. "And the no sex doesn't bother me. I like you and I'd like to get the chance to date you. Will you give me that?"

Cas nodded with a feeling of weightlessness gripping his chest. "Okay."
