I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. Suddenly, I hear footsteps, and I fear that Jasmine is coming back. But then I see a girl, not much younger than myself. She walks down, sees me, and her mouth falls open.
"It's ok, you don't have to be afraid. I won't hurt you," I say.
"Right now, I'm more concerned that my mother is hurting you," she says, coming over.
I slide closer to her, as far as my chain will allow. "I'm Amber," I say.
"We'll have time for names later," the girl says, "Right now my main concern is getting you out."
She takes out her hair pin and tries to pick the lock. A piece of the pin falls from inside the lock, and the girl pulls the rest of it out, broken.
"Damn," she says with exasperation, "Well, as long as you're stuck in here... My name is Jade, and I am Jasmine's daughter."
