Chapter 30: Broken Arrow

Will’s P.O.V

When Kim and I got back to my house, Kim collapsed completely exhausted in her bed. We were both drained emotionally and physically, but I just couldn’t let go of the image of Calvin barely breathing in my arms. I paced around my room for what seemed to me like a century before I decided to go outside and take a walk.

The fresh air felt good against my warm skin, but it didn’t distract me from the pain my heart was still feeling. Every beat my heart made I thought about how useless I was, and how the elders were wrong to have had such high hopes for me.

I started walking. I didn’t have a particular destination in mind so I just walked aimlessly around the streets. I had already walked over a half hour, before I realized where I was heading; Lena and my spot.

At that moment my heart skipped a beat as I thought back to the vision I saw of Alex and Lena kissing. That image made me forget about Calvin, and think about Lena, and about what a jerk I was to her. Tomorrow I’ll go see her and apologize as many times that I’ll need to for her to forgive me. It had been about 8 hours ago since I talked to her, but strangely I missed her like crazy already. Her smile, and her sense of humor, and the way she insulted me.

I approached Lena and my spot and noticed that someone was already sitting there. My heart jumped when I noticed it was Lena. She had her knees pulled against her chest and she was looking out at the sea. The moon was almost at it’s fullest, which made the surroundings much more clear then they should have been.

Lena reminded me of the painting she had made on the first day we had met, except that nobody was holding her hand. Alex could do that for her from now on, I thought bitterly. I stared at her for a couple of minutes, before I decided to join her.

“Hey,” I said gently as I walked towards her.

Lena looked up at me surprised and dazed as if I just woke her up from a daydream.

“Hey,” She simply answered after a while.

I took that as a good sign seeing how she didn’t scream at me to go and jump of a cliff so I sat down next to her in the sand. She didn’t move or talk. After a while I couldn’t take the silence so I said, “Calvin’s in the hospital.”

“What? How?” She asked worriedly as she finally looked at me.

“He almost drowned. I don’t know what happened exactly but Kim and I went to that party where you went with Alex and Calvin somehow got carried out to the sea or something like that. Luckily Kim and I found him in time, and we called an ambulance.” I explained.

“And how is he doing now?” Lena asked as she gnawed on her lip.

“The men that took him away said that he should be fine, and he was still breathing when I found him.”

“And to think I was there and I didn’t do anything to help him.” Lena said softly. Her voice betrayed her anger she felt towards herself. “If something bad happe…”

“It’s not your fault.” I interrupted her. “You had no idea of knowing. There were 100 people at that party. You couldn’t have looked out for all of them.” I said as I laid my arm around her shoulder and pulled her closer to me. She didn’t resist my embrace, which meant that, or she was too distraught or she wasn’t mad at me anymore.

“How come you were at the beach with Kim?” She asked after a while.

“I wanted to show Kim a real beach party, and we then stumbled upon Calvin per accident.”
