Peter's View:
The risotto still cooking on the stove permeates through the house. I need her to remember, she has to...
I have pictures of us in the living room and videos on my laptop and that one room that I don't dare enter full of her.
What if she doesn't remember?
Then I guess...I'll have to figure it out.
What if she doesn't choose you?
Shut up!
The door suddenly booms with a knock. I hurriedly rush to answer it in my pressed pants. It's her, I know it is, it has to be.
I open the door with nervous fingers and reveal her.
Her hair curled and makeup done slightly. She wore a deep red sweater dress and black leggings. Her snow imprinted boots fall off her feet as soon as I welcome her in.
"Uh...Hi, Thanks for coming." I smile brightly.
Her smile reaches the surface and she has a mysterious air about her.
"Your welcome." Her mellifluous voice calls.
"The-uh-risotto is almost done if you'd-uh-care to join me."My words stumble.
"Sure, lead the way."
I walk her to the kitchen and prepare two dishes of it.
"Is this your sister?" her smile wide on her face as she looks at a photo of me and Hailey.
"Ya, we went to the beach as a family and I threw her in the water. She yelled and hollered for hours at me. Her names Hailey, she really liked you."
"I feel like I know her but yet I can't place her face." Her face changes to sadness and says slightly.
"You do and will know her." I reach over and touch her hand.
She draws in a sharp breath and slowly pulls back. I smile widely at her response, she's still in there Peter.
"It's all finished, here ya go."
I put a plate in her spot on the table and then mine.
Two glasses of red wine sit in front of us. I've never had her drink with me or anything that involves alcohol so this should be interesting.
"Mmm...So Good!" She exclaims after multiple bites.
"Thanks."
Selena finishes chewing her mouth full and then wipes her mouth with her napkin.
"So...What were we like?" Her voice off.
I stop eating and just let the questions roll in.
"We were amazing."
"Okay, but how so?"
"We'd always, always, manage to get in a fight it seemed like, but then we'd always make up in the next five minutes. We were inseparable, and we had a future. When we were engaged we talked about maybe getting a home," I reference to this house.
"Here?" Her eyes light up.
"Mhm, I built it for us to live in once we were official. We talked about the white picket fence and dog we'd have. We also had a conversation about maybe having a family and what would happen. We had the dream Selena, we had it all. If only I'd put it to use sooner."
"I can't believe I said those things..."
"Why?" I smile at her as I take a sip of wine.
"Why? Because that's not me! I'm not a settle down kind of girl!" Her voice rolls over me, oh no.
"Selena, calm down, please, you asked I told. That's how we were, and it wasn't easy to tame you."
"Show me the pictures Peter."
I sigh as I grab my glass and take it into the living room. What a long night this is going to be.
She follows with her own and sits down at the couch with the photos of us in front of it.
Every time there was an intimate photo of us she'd blush and turn to look at me. I would proceed to smile slyly and take a sip of wine.
As it slipped into the night and we had finished nearly all albums of us; I had a half full bottle of wine from both of us and the room full of pictures.
My hand slides in hers and guides her to the room which managed to bring her back last time. She has to remember.
As soon as she sees the photos of us on the walls she gasps. They were so skin baring and raw. One was of us laying in bed after making love. Another was her putting her hair up in front of the mirror.
"Oh my God."
Selena stood at the center of the room, the center of my world.
I walked behind her and wrapped my arms around her waist. I don't know if it was the wine or her but something had me intoxicated.
"Peter?" Her voice whispers.
My lips kiss her soft neck and then up to behind her ear.
"I used to kiss you here."
Her body shiver under every touch. Selena backs away and leans up against the wall in front of us.
"What do you want Peter?"
"I want you to remember something, anything of us-"
"I'm sorry!" She cries out.
"Please Selena, try." My heart throbs with pain.
I watch as her eyes glass over with tears.
"You sound like such a great guy, but I'm too damaged for you!"
"Shhh."
"I am! I am no good! Can't you see that?!?"
"No, all I see is the love of my life."
I flicker with her eyes and then take claim to her lips. These are mine and no one is ever going to touch her like this again.
