It didn't take long for Eva to understand what was going on and agree to help, but after explaining everything, she really seemed dumbfounded. For her, the fact that Sam was evil shocked her the most.
"I mean I only met him once, but he was so kind and gentle with a caring smile and I could never imagine him doing anything bad at all." She continued to ramble, hugging me tightly.
"I know that you obviously cared about him so much; I'm sorry. Are you sure it's him though?" Eva asked, looking at me, then at Cedric. He shrugged and signaled back to me.
"Yeah, Felix told me."
"Where's Felix? Maybe we should talk to him." Eva pressed. When I hesitated, she gave me a questioning look.
"I haven't seen him since he told us about Sam. It's like he just disappeared." I sighed heavily, knowing it sounded bad.
"So who exactly is Felix? You keep talking about him." Jake piped in, looking around.
"A dead guy." Cedric said dryly with a straight face. Jake sat there in silence for a moment with a confused look on his face.
"Like you want to kill him? For disappearing?"
"No, he's actually Oliver's dead grandfather, but Miss Elf Girl over here can see him." Cedric explained, giving me a slight smirk.
"He's a ghost?" Jake asked, eyebrow raised with doubt.
"Yep." I muttered. "It's weird, I know." I added.
"More like impossible. There's no such thing as ghosts, so there's probably some other explanation." Jake's skepticism was going to be hard to get past, that much was already obvious.
"Like what? He died and now I can talk to him."
"Like it isn't him. It's some other magic that makes you think you're talking to him." Jake offered, shaking his head.
"We've already pretty much proven that it has to be him. He answered questions that only Felix could have possibly known." I discredited his suggestion with ease.
"Then maybe this guy isn't dead, and you're seeing some projection of him. Maybe he's the actual evil one. If he was a ghost, why would he just disappear when you've clearly talked to him plenty?" I rolled my eyes.
"A projection of himself? You're just making things up. And he's told me before he can't just be around down here all the time. How do you believe in magic, but not ghosts?"
"Ghosts don't make sense. Do you see other ghosts too?" He asked, a smirk touching his lips when I didn't reply instantly.
"There, you see? I don't have an explanation for you, but there's no way it's a ghost. Maybe it's actually been this Sam guy all along, and he does it to keep tabs on you. You said that Sam was working with a sorcerer, so the sorcerer could have easily made you see things that weren't there."
"If it was Sam, why would he rat himself out to me?"
"Maybe the sorcerer doesn't like Sam, and after telling you about Sam's treachery, Sam killed him and that's why you haven't seen 'Felix' since." Jake's comebacks were slowly making me question if Felix was real or not. They made sense, but I didn't want to believe it. I enjoyed having Felix around, and if he was completely fake I'd be really upset.
"Listen, this isn't the topic that we should be discussing at the moment. Lets get back on topic. For now, we should consider the factor that what Felix told you about Sam may or may not be true." Eva said, cutting us off.
"I mean, to be honest I really hope that it isn't true and that it's someone else that's setting Sam up for failure." She continued, looking at me with concern.
