“M-Mr. Felton?” I stuttered, not able to really get the words out of my mouth fast enough. His eyes glistened and the corners of his lips tugged back into a smile, or a smirk? I think it was the latter one.

“Please, call me Dan outside of school, Mr. Felton makes me feel like my father.” I gulped loudly, hoping nobody heard I just nodded my head. I didn’t have a clue what I should be more afraid of… Mr. Felton, or Dan, telling John and Sarah that we kissed, more specifically made-out, or the green mini van being seen around here.

I chose the first of the two even though John and Sarah were still on the second option I knew by the look in Mr. Felton’s eyes that he was thinking of the same one that I was.

“Dinner should be ready in just a few more minutes, so, you three talk and I’ll go check the chicken.” John and Mr. Felton nodded. I just stood, frozen in the same spot since I walked into the room.

This was pretty awkward; for me at least. Sarah and John didn’t seem phased at all. That’s also because they had no clue what happened on Friday after school…

“There’s a sit right next to Daniel, Anya.” John informed me, pulling me from my thoughts. I switched my gaze from my teacher to my father and nodded.

“Thanks, but Jess had to call me about some homework that she didn’t finish before we eat dinner, so I’ll just go back up to my room and come down when the time is right.” I smiled politely to John and turned on my heel, hoping to get out in time… Sadly, I failed.

“Jess can wait until after dinner.” John stated in his principal voice. I didn’t like him using it and even though I hated to call him my father, I listened and sauntered over to the leather recliner next to Mr. Felton- Daniel- Dan, whatever I was supposed to call him! “So, how has the teaching job been for you?” John asked, instantly changing the topic of discussion over from my mother’s death situation. It kind of hurt to see him discard her memory as if she was nothing.

‘She was the woman that helped make me!’ I wanted to scream so badly at him, but I bit my tongue. This was probably the worst time to get in a fight with him. Dinners with the ‘family’ and in his office were one thing, but not now. Company was over even though I wouldn’t call the teacher I had just made out with company.

“Good, the students are very interesting this year.” I looked away as soon as Mr. Felton’s eyes flickered over to me. I could feel a major blush coming on soon enough.

“Yeah, I know what you mean.” John agreed, glancing over at me.

What the hell?! Did they think I was invisible?

“I’ve having fun though.” Mr. Felton said, suddenly turning his gaze back to John who did the same.

“Well, that’s good. I’m glad you finally we able to come in. The other teacher just randomly quit and didn’t give us any notice of it beforehand and just up and left. We were lucky to find you. I would’ve had to double up classes and that wouldn’t have been good.” Mr. Felton chuckled.

“Well, you caught me at a good time. I was just moving here looking for a full-time teaching job. The other school I worked at in Ohio didn’t pay very well and me being only a part-time teacher at the time, I got paid little to nothing.” He informed John, leaning back into the couch.

He looked to calm and content while I was over here freaking out. It could slip from his lips at any moment!

“Ohio… Huh. Really?” John questioned, Mr. Felton nodded in response. “Anya lived in Ohio before she came here.” That got my attention and I looked up at John who was smiling.
