[ THE RISE: CHAPTER FOURTEEN ]

Rhea and Kol were performing a spell involving a large cauldron full of ingredients and a large straw poppet. Davina and Ares watched on, talking amongst themselves— Rhea and Kol had the most chemistry, and therefore; were more powerful when they worked together.

The two chanted together as they dipped the poppet into the contents of the cauldron, "It's finished, but it's no where near enough to protect Cami's body from Esthers magic, I'm afraid." Rhea informed the other two and Marcel.

"I might know a few ways to distract you from your troubled mind?" Kol suggested with a raise of his brows, Rhea rolled her eyes, it was Ares, however, that replied.

"The sexual tension in here is almost suffocating." Davina laughed, Kol too, let out a small chuckle. Marcel, however, did not look amused.

"You can take this seriously, or I can lock you in a coffin like your brother Finn, if you'd prefer."

"Oh I'd really like to see you try." Rhea warned, taking a protective step towards Kol, "This spell needs time to cook, in peace."

"Cami doesn't have time, because of your mistake. Esther can jump anybody into her body, right now." Marcel's choice of words were something that Rhea was not prepared to tolerate.

"My mistake? My mistake; as you call it, bought my brother back to life, Marcellus. If anything, it's a downright victory to me, your blonde was merely collateral damage." Marcel took a threatening step towards Rhea, who only raised her eyebrows, daring him to try something.

Ares stepped between his sister and the vampire, "Hey, hey, hey. Let's all just calm down." He looked to Kol for help, who happily obliged.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, but she's not going to jump anybody. She's going to jump Rebekah, who's miles away. But, fair dues, Marcel, I think I'd be a bit testy, too, if my old ex was about to jump into my new ex. I think that would be a bit- uh.." He looked for the right word, Cami, who had just joined the group— chimed in.

"...Awkward?"

Ares took back his seat next to Davina, waiting for the scene to unfold.

"I'd of probably used the word kinky, but.." Kol started, testing Marcel.

"Do we still use the word kinky? Sorry, been dead the last two hundred years, so my vocabulary is a bit out of sorts." Ares spoke up from his spot, Kol laughed— he knew the feeling of being behind with the time all too well.

Marcel, running low on patience, decided to take his anger out on Kol— vamp speeding towards Kol and grabbing him by the collar of his shirt. Rhea was about to pull him off, but Cami beat her to it.

"I appreciate the chivalry, Marcel, but he'll have an easier time protecting me if he's still alive." Marcel reluctantly— let of of Kol, and left with Cami, not before demanding Kol to keep working.

"What is this animosity between you and him?" Ares questioned once they were completely gone, Kol shrugged his shoulders.

"Eh, it gets a bit old, playing odd-man-out in me own family. You know how Klaus, Elijah and Rebekah were always a party of three. No room for me at the table, but there always seemed to be room for Marcel." He was talking to Ares but his eyes were on Rhea, something he had struggled with lately— never taking his eyes off of her, the fear of being without her had slowly started to creep up on him, he never wanted to be apart from her again.
