This is my first story and it has many mistakes that I will get to fixing soon enough. This story contains cliche moments, unrealistic events, and many up and downs. Remember this is fictional and nothing is to be taken seriously.

Preface

Niall giggled to himself as he walked down the empty halls. It was his first day in 4th grade, and he was more excited than seeing the ice cream truck drive past his house. He was excited to make new friends, and meet the new teachers. He couldn't wait to race to the swing set, and then make a bet with his friends who could swing the highest.

He just opened the door, and the teacher glanced up at him and smiled. "You must be Niall; it's nice to meet you." She addressed him, and then turned to her class.

"Kids, this is Niall. He's new, so please be nice." She turned back to Niall, and smiled a sweet smile. "Niall, you can sit next to Alfie."

Niall turned, and seen a boy in the back waving his arm excitedly, and Niall knew he just made his first friend.

--

Niall giggled to himself as he watched Alfie try to kick the football past 10 ft. Alfie had surgery done to his knee, and lost all coordination. Alfie heaved a heavy sigh, and turned to a giggling Niall.

"Niall, you're supposed to be my best mate. Help me." Alfie pouted.

Niall was finally in 8th grade, and he and Alfie were the best of buds. They clicked instantly in 4th grade, and nothing could separate them.

Alfie knew Niall was different from the other students, but he didn't care. Niall was the best, best friend anyone could have, and Alfie wasn't ready to let him go.

"All you have to do is kick it hard, Alf. You are just weak." Niall giggled again when Alfie pouted.

"That's mean, Niall." He was only joking though, not that Niall could tell.

Niall's eyes widen a fraction, and he started to stutter. "I-I-I'm s-s-sorry Alf. I was only j-j-joking."

Alfie immediately felt bad. "I was only joking Ni, don't worry about it. You're still my best friend."

--

Niall frowned as he walked away from the fight that just broke out. He didn't understand why people fought, he didn't believe people should be mean, or hurt others. He didn't believe in bad, in evil. Everyone had good in them, nobody was bad.

He didn't think the people who hurt others, including himself, were bad. Just misunderstood, or even stressed out. So they took it out on others, and Niall let them beat him up. He didn't try to stop them, and he didn't tell on them.

Niall was finally in 11th grade. He had one friend, Alfie, but Alfie moved in freshman year. His parents sent him to a boarding school halfway across the country. That didn't stop them from Skyping or texting every day, though.

People found Niall strange, and he couldn't understand why. Alfie just said he was far too innocent for most people, and people didn't like innocent. They liked to be bad, to do evil things, but Niall never believed him when he said that.

"You'll make a friend this year Ni, I promise. Maybe get yourself a boyfriend." Alfie said that morning over the phone. Niall blushed, and giggled to himself.

"You think so?" He whispered into the phone. Alfie chuckled, "Of course Ni. If I was gay Id hit it, but unfortunately for you, I am straight."

They laughed together. Niall had come out as gay before Alfie left the country, and Alfie accepted him with open arms.

He would always say, "I knew there was something different about you, but nonetheless, you are my best friend and love is love. I accept you no matter how you are."

Niall knew he would always be there for him, and Niall would always be there for him.

--

As Niall walked to school that morning, he couldn't help but take in his surroundings. The way the birds chirped, and flew around each other. He looked towards the sky, and saw the sun peeking out from behind a cloud. He passed a preschool, and smiled when he heard the little kids laughing and screaming as they played tag.

Niall couldn't help but think that today was going to be different, and with that stored in mind, he walked to school with an extra step in his walk.
