Revenge is silly, and only satisfies for a season.
I have awful trouble with it: being petty or lashing out immediately when someone says something against me. I know the best thing to do would be ignore it, or say something to diffuse the situation, but I always go into an argument with the belief I'll win. If I think I'll get roasted without winning, I won't enter into it. I think my problem isn't so much being irritated--it's pride. When my pride is wounded, I will lash out.
But verbal violence only fuels the fire. Love extinguishes these things. I need to learn how to love, and give peace. Otherwise how can I expect love and peace in return?
