When I reread the book a few weeks ago, I realized something extremely important. Let's take a look at this passage:
"We could all do acrobatics...it also got Two-Bit and Soda jailed once. They were doing mid-air flips down a downtown sidewalk, walking on their hands and otherwise, disturbing the public and the police"
The Outsiders page 136
Now if you remember the the beginning of the book, Ponyboy says that the three of them (Darry, Soda, and Pony) can stay together as long as Sodapop and Ponyboy don't get into trouble with the fuzz. And getting arrested is obviously getting into trouble.
So technically, Sodapop and Ponyboy could've been taken out of Darry's care for that. But they weren't (that's a good thing though :) ).
But right now I'm thinking that maybe the police were kind enough to let Soda off easy and deal with Two-Bit. But we'll never really know for sure.
