Sans was relatively quiet as you drove through the winding roads in the heart of the forest fire. The heat was unlike anything you had imagined, but some force within you drive you forward.

There was an awkward grunt coming from behind you. You looked cautiously into your rear view mirror to see that Sans was digging in his pockets to produce the bottle of ketchup he had snagged from CVS. Carefully, he poured some of the fluid into his mouth, muttering angrily as some of it flew away in the wind.

"You might want to watch out for that - " you began to shout over the roar of the motorcycle when a single tree branch smacked the bottle from Sans' hand and tumbled onto the road.

"We need to go back," Sans demanded. You checked his expression for the darkened eyes, which you took as an expression that meant he was serious. Instead, you were met with two glowing pupils and his trademark smile that you had grown quite accustomed to.

"You should really try mustard," you suggested, noting happily that the forest fire seemed to be thinning out as you progressed. Footprints on the dirt near the road suggested that this was the way the humans had gone.

"What makes you think that I'll like mustard?" Sans grunted as you began to slow your pace, looking for any sign of your brother.

A scream pierced the night over the sound of the crackling fires behind you. "They're close by," you hissed to Sans and motioned for him to bend over. A distorted looking frog hopped from the bushes. It had multiple thorns on its head and body. You noticed that it twitched, similar to the motion that the Vulkin had done before.

"They're looking for humans," Sans said, disgust edging his voice. "They've become addicted to the determination found in your souls, some sort of primitive need to be superior."

We call this a Final Froggit, your father's voice sang in your mind. You found yourself mystified at how he knew so much. They're relatively easy to kill. Do you remember Froggits [Y/N]? Good. Think of their attacks similar to a Froggit's but faster and more relentless.

"We need to kill it," you said suddenly, your voice hollowed but very much determined.

Sans looked at you in surprise. He opened his mouth to protest, a natural-born instinct to protect you. He shook it off and then gave you a thumbs up. "I'm rootin' for yah, kiddo."

You grunted at him and then blew a [H/C] strand of hair that had fallen down from your face and turned to the Final Froggit.

* Note: [S/D] stands for what you have as your soul design.

A [S/D] colored heart beat to your chest as the world suddenly became darker. The trees around you took ominous blackened forms. The cracking of the fire contributed to the ominous music that played around you.

The Final Froggit began its attack, the form of a frog leaping around you. Remember what your father taught you [Y/N], you thought to yourself and dodged the attack with ease.

At the last moment the frog stopped its jump and veered suddenly towards the direction you were in. Pain seared through your left shoulder as a bar in front of you was depleted by five points. I have 15 HP left? you wondered. What would happen if you ran out completely?

A voice shouted your name. Slowly, you turned around to face Sans who was throwing a stick your way. You noticed that the arena had caught details of him you had never noticed before. It seemed impossible, but dents had formed around his eyes to create a hollowed look that came from sleepless nights. His jacket was torn at edges from improper care.

How could you have not seen this before?

I'll deal with him later, you thought and caught the stick. You hammered your fist on the fight button and slashed the stick wildly at the monster. It's HP was depleted by half and you smiled in triumph.

"Wasn't that some-" you began to Sans but was interrupted as a swarm of flies surrounded you, biting you at all angles. Patches of raw skin were visible throughout your body.

Your HP was at 5.

Again, you attacked the monster with brute force, until only a sliver of its health remained. Another wave of flies surrounded you, biting you at random. You collapsed to the ground, trembling as the final fly swarmed to you, eager to deliver the killing blow. A flash of blue light filled the arena before everything went dark.

"Thank goodness you're alive [Y/N]! I was afraid that you wouldn't reset this time. Just do what I do and stay determined. We'll eventually get passed that creep."

"Yeah," you nodded unconvinced to Flowey but appreciated his enthusiasm. You pushed past the doors of the Ruins and into the blinding cold of Snowdin. Footsteps echoed behind you, but you already knew who they belonged to.

"H u m a n ," a gruff voice came from behind you. "Don't you know how to greet a new friend? Turn around and shake my hand."

You turned around but refused to shake the monster's hand. Previous resets had taught you that the whoopee cushion was actually something much more deadly.

Something that would kill you.

"You're smart," the skeleton noted. "I doubt you'll get passed my brother Papyrus. He's a human hunting fanatic. Don't worry, I'll keep an eye socket out for you." This was usually said by Sans during the previous resets, but you had something different in mind.

"Thank you," you murmured.

Sans stiffened and a look of guilt flashed in his eye sockets. "I'll try kiddo," he smiled weakly and chugged a bottle of mustard.

"You should try ketchup sometimes," you suggested. Sans shrugged and teleported to some unknown location.

The grip on your shoulder tightened.

"Flowey that hu-"

Flowey had transformed into a much darker version of himself. He was a solid black with red eyes and smile. "Something is very wrong here, isn't it? This isn't the timeline you were in, we both know that. I think that will be changing very very soon [Y/N]."

You opened your mouth to speak but closed it when Flowey held up a vine to silence you. "I don't have the answers to your questions. See you soon, Chara. Time to wake up."
