Maya POV

My 18th birthday is April 5th which is  in a week and it just so happened that McKenzie and I had come down with a really horrible cold that had been going around. I still insisted on babysitting and Lucas didn't really argue with me on it because I think it made him feel better that I was with him so he'd not have to worry about how I was doing. One of the many things that made me fall in love with Lucas is how caring he is of me.  Kenzie and I got done with our homework around 7:30. We decided to go take residence in her bed so that we could cuddle and watch a movie. He still had a project he had to work and since her I weren't feeling well we figured that we could do that. She eventually drifted off to sleep at some point during the movie so I decided to go get into my PJs and get into Lucas's bed. No way was I going to be taking myself home tonight.

Lucas joined me about 30 minutes later and I cuddled into him. "How are you feeling?"  he asked me.

"I'm alright. I wish I could breathe through my nose." I replied.

"Are you due for more medicine?" he asked as as he kissed me on the forhead.

"I just took some before you came in here. Hopefully it kicks in soon."  I answered.

Lucas and I were cuddling watching something on TV when McKenzie came into the room crying.

"Kenz is that you?" Lucas said to her.

I sat up to look at her and she was standing at the bottom of the bed "What's wrong, Kenzie are you crying?"

"I don't feel good." she sniffled. "Can I sleep with you and Lukey?"

"Yeah, come on get in." I replied and she crawled up on the bed and laid in between us.

"What doesn't feel good, short stack?" Lucas said to her.

"I got a headache and my nose is stuffy." she replied.

"My nose is stuff too, kid." I replied.

I placed my hand on her forehead and could tell right away she had a fever. I got up and grabbed the thermometer and some children's Ibuprofen. Sure enough she had a fever of 101.3. I gave her the medicine and she settled in between me and Lucas.

"Maya would you sing to me?" she asked.

"I can but it won't be that great because I'm sick too." I chuckled.

I started singing Amazing Grace to her as that was one her favorites. As I sang to her she cuddled into me and was out within seconds. I looked over at Lucas who was looking at me with a pure look of awe on his face.

"You're going to be such a great mom someday, Maya." he whispered.

"Practice makes perfect. I guess we better get used this kind of thing because someday we'll have our own kid who will probably end up in bed with us more times that we can keep up with." I silently chuckled.

"You're so good with her. She just loves you." he said to me.

"I try my best." replied.

"Get some sleep. I love you." Lucas replied.

"I love you too."

Lucas and I ended up going to sleep with Kenzie snuggled in between us. She didn't wake up at all in the middle of the night which was good. The next day I was feeling better than I did. Lucas and I got dressed and went out to the kitchen to eat breakfast.

"Mom, Kenzie is still sleeping in my bed." Lucas said as he grabbed the milk out of the fridge. "We're up a little earlier than usual."

"That's fine. I think I might actually keep her home." Bethany replied.

"Yeah I think that's a good idea. She was running a fever last night before she went to sleep." I replied as I took a bite of my cereal.

"How high was it?" Bethany asked.

"It was high of 101.3" I replied. "I made sure to give her Children's Ibuprofen."

"Maya, did wonderful with her." Lucas said as he sat down beside me. "Kenzie adores her."

"I know she does. Thank you Maya." Bethany said with a smile.

"You're welcome!" I answered.

Lucas and I finished our breakfast then headed off to school. I thought I was feeling better today but was wrong. The school nurse ended up sending me home since I was running a fever. Lucas said he'd come see me after school and that his Mom had taken off today since McKenzie was sick.  I left my keys with him and then went out to the parking lot since Mom was out there waiting for me.

"How you doing baby girl?" she said as I got into the car.

"I feel like crap, Mom." I mumbled.

"I made you some fresh soup at home but why don't we take you to the clinic. You might need an antibiotic to help clear you sinuses." she suggested.

"We can do that. I know the medicine I had wasn't relieving anything." I replied.

Mom and I went to the clinic and they did end up giving me an antibiotic to help clear my sinuses. The doctor said they have had a lot of patients come in with the same thing that there was a bug going around. I was relieved to have been given something because I was so worried I would be sick on my birthday. After picking the prescription up at the Pharmacy we went home. I had some of Mom's soup and took my first dose of antibiotic.  Since it was only 1:30 I decided I was going to take a nap. I was surprised when I woke up and it was 4:00. Lucas had come in and I hadn't even heard him.

"How you feeling, beautiful?" he asked as he closed his history book.

"Better than I was since my fever finally broke." I replied. "Mom took me to the Dr. and they gave me antibiotic."

"Yeah, that's what she said. I hope you get to feeling better soon. I don't like seeing you sick."

"Ugh, me too. I don't want to be sick on my birthday. Hopefully you don't get it." I chuckled.

"I think you will be better by then and if I get sick then I get sick." he said with a smile. "I brought you Taco's."

"You're the best boyfriend ever." I said and he leaned down and kissed me. "I love you."

"I love you more."  he replied.

Lucas continued on his homework and I was hungry so I went and heated up the Tacos that Lucas brought me. After I got done eating I was feeling better so I ended up doing homework that I had so I didn't get behind. Once we finished that we cuddled the rest of the night.
