'Hey guys!!

So I haven't updated this book in like 2837492387 years, and I promise I will get it all done soon. I have been really wrapped up in my other book, Fifthblood, and if you like this book you should definently check it out!

Thanks so much for reading :)

Last time: We met a new character named Dr. Watt who is an ADULT?!?! Lana has a very unfriendly dispute with Sam about her feelings for Chase. Eventually she gets so flustered that she just leaves. Dr. Watt brings some of the kids back to the lab where they discuss what may be going on with the creatures. On the way home, they stop by the old neighborhood where they go to Lana's house to scope out the bacteria. In short, there was a tripping and falling incident in which Leila Mort and Vicky were affected. They find Brendan (Lana's brother) there and he says that Lana betrayed him and her brother, that she's dead to him. They leave, Lana not leaving without a fit of tears. They find a ton of kids hiding out in the neighborhood. On the way home, they pass the old power plant and they see it is swarming with creatures, like it is their hive. When they get home, Lana goes on a walk. She finds some marbles in the snow and give them to Sam as a sort of peace offering, which he accepts. A fuzzy ending to a not so fuzzy chapter.

Chase

It's been three days since we went to the old neighborhood and got the bacteria. And it's been three days since their mutations started.

The first day the changes were barely noticeable. Leila's eyes itched, Vicky had a horrible headache but only on the left side of her head, and Mort had the same horrible headache but only in one particular spot in his head (on the left side). We didn't really understand what was happening to them, but the second day, things got clearer.

It started early in the morning when Lindsay saw a creature far off in the distance. It seemed to only be a grey dot if you weren't looking right at it, but if you looked hard enough, you could make out the outline of a monster. Soon enough, all the kids near rushed over. All the eyes in the room squinted out the window and saw the same thing. Sam and Lee wanted to call a lockdown but that's when Leila spoke up. "Guys, that's a gray garbage can and a mailbox," she said knowingly. Being herself AJ looked back out the window, squinted, and then looked back at Leila. "No way," she argued, "that's definitely a creature." Leila fought back and said it was a mailbox and a garbage can again. She said she'd even go down there and show them. This idea did not appeal to Lee in the slightest, but being her feisty self, she put her shoes on, grabbed Lana's crowbar, and headed out the door. Lee chased after her worriedly.

We waited for a while and watched the two bouncing figures get smaller and smaller. When the "creature" didn't react to them when they were getting close, I knew it wasn't really a creature. My suspicions were confirmed when Leila turned on her heel, yelled something at Lee, laughing, and then put her arm around the garbage can and pretended it was her boyfriend or something. Lee started having a laughing fit and so did the littles in the room. I thought it was pretty funny too, but I realized that this wasn't good. This wasn't good at all.

Leila mutated.

Vicky was the next one. Lana and I were sitting at the table, talking about the bacteria when Vicky came over and literally started ranting about it. It was all this scientific crap that neither of us could understand. Vicky had her eyes half closed and she was grumbling, like this was normal for her. Lana and I just looked at each other, mirroring each others knowing expressions.

Vicky mutated too.

And, since he woke up around 11, Mort was the last one I noticed. I was really peeved because I was listening to Hallelujah on my CD player and the all of a sudden there was a giant cracking noise and then it just died. i knew it wasn't the batteries because I just changed them. I checked anyway, just in case. There was nothing wrong. I started trying to pry that stupid back thing off that was held in with tiny screws when it slipped from my hands and hit my guitar with a hollow, ringing, deafening bang. My guilty expression immediately hops onto my face as Mort comes lumbering, almost drunk with sleep, into my room. "Sorry dude," I said, "I didn't mean to wake you up."
