New Town

I sat in the passenger seat of our suv. My aunt Jessica at the wheel. I rested my chin on my hand, while looking out the window at the moving scenery. My fingers played with my key necklace. It was my sixteenth birthday present from my parents. On the key, it said peace with a peace sign dangling next to it. The moving truck drove behind us. My aunt nudged me with her elbow. "Are you excited for your first day in a new town and a new school?" She asked.

"No," I answered with out a second thought. She sighed.

"I know you are still upset about the fire and the car crash, but living in a new town will give you a fresh start," Jessica said.

"Yeah a fresh start where I pretend to be someone I'm not," I said. Jessica rubbed my shoulder.

"Then be yourself," She said. I groan.

"You have a comeback for everything, even my depressing comments," I said.

"More like excuses," Jessica said. I give her a playful glare. Jessica smiled. I couldn't help but smile too. Jessica pulls into a driveway. "We're here." She unblocked her seat belt, opened the door, and got out of the car as I did the same.

The house in front of us was beautiful. It looked about a hundred years old. Vines grew on the sides of the house. Holding up the roof over the porch, were two pillars. The big door at the entrance was a nice dark colour. At the very top was a small tower. "Wow," I said in awe.

"I know right," Jessica said chucking me the key. "Go pick out a room. I'll help unload the truck." A smile crossed my lips. Walking up the steps to the front door, I reach for the door nob. Unlocking the door, I stepped inside. The house looked bigger inside then it did on the outside. To the right of the door, there was a staircase a hallway lead to the kitchen, attached to the living room with a bathroom inches away. The mud room was very open to sunlight.

Taking off my converse shoes, I take easy steps up to the second floor. The steps creaked slightly when I applied weight on them.

The second floor had a long hallway leading to multiple rooms. At the very end of the hall stood a nice clean white door. It had floral carvings engraved in it. I walked towards it. The closer I got, the more mesmerized I felt. Opening the door, I was greeted by the sun. This was the room within the tower. It was beautiful and it lead up to the third floor of the tower. It was gorgeous. I didn't need any longer to pick which room I want.

I push open one of the windows. Out on the lawn was Jessica. "Hey Jess, I picked out the room I want," I call to her.

"I knew you'd pick that room. Come down to get you're things," Jessica called back. I nod to her as a smile crossed her face. She's finally becoming herself again. The words played across my mind.

"Mind reading has it advantages," I mutter. "Even if I can't really control it." Feeling a rush of happiness, I hurried outside to help unload everything.

~Time Skip~

After unloading everything, I wiped the sweat from my forehead. Jessica patted my back. "Why don't you go get yourself a treat. There's a place down town called the Astrona Valley Grill. It's just a few blocks away," Jessica said handing me twenty dollars.

"Are you sure? Do you want me to pick you up something?" I ask.

"No I'm fine. Just go and enjoy yourself," Jessica said smiling. My mouth curved upward into a smile.

"Alright," I said. "I'll be back in a few." I waved back at Jessica as I ran down the sidewalk. It's been so long since I have felt this way.

~another Time Skip~

My feet gentle patted against the cement sidewalk. Astrona Valley was definitely a beautiful place. The sun made it look that much prettier. My hands were in my pockets of my baggy hoodie. My fingers played with the twenty dollar bill.

The strands of hair that blew in the wind tickled my chin. I have very long brown curly hair. Everyone that past seemed to stop and stare. Do I really look that out of place? I began to feel like an outcast again.

I finally came across the Astrona Vally Grill. It looked nice from the outside. But I still didn't know of the contents it hold inside. Crossing the crosswalk like the good girl I am, I make my way over to the front door. I grab the door handle. When I slowly open the Door, nice smells and warm heat embraced me.

It seemed to be welcoming me. I entered slowly. Nobody seemed to notice my presence. I taking in a deep breath and casually walk up to the bar counter. The guy behind the bar came up to me.

"What can I get you?" He asked. My heart began to race. I was never good at talking to people.

" I um..." I struggled to speak.

"Do you want me to give you a minute?" He asked.

"No...I," I said. My head shot up towards the menu board. "I um... Will take a chocolate milkshake," I stuttered. The guy gave me a warm smile.

"Coming right up," he said turning his back to me. I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding in. I did it. Maybe I can do this.

In a few minutes, the guy came back carrying my milkshake. He placed it on the counter and placed a straw in it. "Here you go. That'll be a $1.50," he said. I pull out the twenty dollar bill and handed it to him. He takes it and begins counting my change. He hands me back a ten dollar bill, a five dollar bill, a townie, a looney, and two quarters.

"Thank you," I whisper quietly. He just smiled kindly.

"Are you new around here?" He asked. I nod while taking a sip of my milkshake. "That's what I thought," he said. "I'm Tony."

"H-Harmony," I said.

"You're really shy. Is there a reason for that?" Tony asks. I shrug my shoulders. "You don't know?"

"Well I have an idea," I said.

"Do you care to share?" Tony asks. I shake my head no. Tony gave me a pitied smile. "Well, if you need anyone to talk to, I'm here. I should get back to work." I nod, sipping on my straw. Tony turns on his heals, returning to his work. I spin around to sit with my back resting on the bar counter. My eyes scanned the room. I saw happy people living their lives. When two parents walk by with their son and daughters, my heart began to ache.

I quickly snapped out of it when I hear cheering. My curiousness got the best of me. I approach a crowd of people where the cheering was coming from. I managed to see. In the centre was a blond man, probably in his twenties, chugging a beer. There were so many empty beer glasses on the floor next to him.

He was very well built and looked good in his black leather jacket. His tight grey t-shirt showed of his muscles. Girls around him were swooning. I just stood in my place looking at him like he was crazy. I saw a small glow come from me. I look down to see my key necklace was glowing. "Huh?" I whisper.

The mans attention was turned to me. I don't know why, but I needed to get out of here. I quickly slurped the rest of my drink and placed the cup on a nearby table. The man finished his beer. He stood up. I began to feel a strong presence. Goddess. A mans voice spoke in my head.

"What the heck?!" I mutter. Goddess. The voice repeated. I gripped my head as the voice kept tormenting me. STOP! A sudden burst made the glass windows shatter. Everyone in the restaurant screamed except for the blond man. He just smirked. His attention was on me again. I had been captivated in his dark pupils. Not spending another second in those eyes, I quickly ran out of the restaurant. This time, I just ran across the road. I couldn't waste time with the crosswalk. I needed to get home where I know it's safe.
