Somebody Else by the 1975

Have you ever really wanted to run, but you can't because your feet feel cemented to the ground and your legs feel like Jell-O and your stomach is in knots and your throat is on fire?

Well, that was all me in that moment.

Justin's dark gaze made me numb immediately. His hair was perfectly tousled, his white tshirt strategically untucked, his black jacket making him appear so much more mysterious than I knew him to be.

My mouth went dry.

"Yeah, he ended up just completely falling asleep in the bathroom at this random guy's house and we just left him there," Nate explained. I felt bad. I wanted to listen and I was sure the story was funny, but I was a little caught up in something -- someone -- else.

I swallowed hard, directing my attention back to Nate as if it took all of the energy out of my body. "Shit, that's crazy," I murmured.

He laughed. "I know, we didn't find him until the next day. The best part was that the family who owned the house didn't even know. They still don't."

"That's so funny," I forced a laugh, touching Nate's chest in a desperate attempt to come off as flirty.

Oh, god, that's overdoing it. Don't do that ever again, Kennedy. Never, ever.

Nate, seeming completely unbothered by my actions, continued to talk to Anna and I, but my eyes anxiously followed the demeanor of the room. A few girls stared at Justin as nonchalantly as they could, probably wishing they could have him. A couple of guys said hello and he stopped to talk to them for a few short seconds, but he was on a mission. And that mission was to get to me.

"Oh, hey man," Nate directed his attention to Justin. "How've you been?"

"Good," Justin smirked, his voice soft and warm. Before I could say a word or do anything Justin looked over at me, supplying me with all of his attention. "Hi Kennedy, do you want a drink?"

I nodded, regardless of the fact that I had just filled up my cup. I had no idea why I nodded at all considering I was supposed to play hard to get, but I couldn't help it. It was Justin, and it had been two long days of not talking to him. Considering he was all I could seem to think about whether I wanted to admit it or not, it seemed like forever.

As I followed Justin into the kitchen, I could feel several pairs of eyes on me. I assumed it was mostly because they either didn't know who I was or they did know who I was, and they were shocked to see that I was with one of the most infamous people in our school.

"How many have you had?" he asked from beside me. I could feel his cold breath on my neck.

"Why do you care?" I asked.

He chuckled. "Well considering you're still stubborn as fuck, I'm going to guess you haven't had many."

I shook my head, finding myself complying with him without much effort. "No. This is only my second."

He nodded. "I have to say, I thought you'd be wasted by now. I just expected that from you. But I should have known how unpredictable you are."

"What are you doing here?" I asked in an attempt to disregard his words that sent chills down my spine. "I thought this wasn't your thing."

Shaking his head, he took my drink out of my hand and gave me a different one that he had made. "I came here to get you, remember?"

"Why do you want me to come with you so badly? I thought you were mad at me?"
