Bear's POV
Reese stalked toward the locked door and he opened it. The two Oaks came out and looked at him. "Thank you so much," breathed Mrs. Oak as she hugged Reese. Reese was a bit taken back but he didn't tell her off.
"You shouldn't thank me," he argued as he waved his hand toward Baghera and I. "They are the ones that saved all of our lives."
Mrs. Oak surged forward and kneeled down. She wrapped her arms around Baghera and I. "Thank you so much! I love you too so much!"
I felt warmth spread over me and excitement surged through me. I hadn't ever been looked at as a hero before.
Mr. Oak leaned down beside his mate and stretched out a hand. He was a bit more cautious and pressed his hand against Baghera's muzzle. She purred and licked his hand. I did the same and my tail thumped the earth.
"These are the best pets ever," cried Mrs. Oak in joy.
Reese shook his head. "They aren't pets. They're companions."
