You were sitting on your bed, doing your homework contently until you heard your phone buzz.

"What's up Kuroo?" You asked, answering your cell phone as the third year let out a breath.

"We broke up last night." He sounded sad, oddly enough. His girlfriend had put him through hell and back. He loved her, as he claimed, but she had cheated on him multiple times, yet he hadn't ended it.

"I'm sorry. What happened if you don't mind me asking?" You asked, he confirmed your suspicions with a loud sigh.

"She cheated on me, multiple times. " Kuroo sounded tired, but nonetheless he tried to sound at least somewhat happy. Kuroo had a thing for calling you whenever he needed to vent about his latest girl troubles. You were always willing to listen.

The thing about your relationship with him that it was mostly cell based, mainly because you went to Fukurodani while he attended Nekoma. The relationship started when you first met him at a volleyball game, after the match you had gone to surprise Bokuto for his birthday, since he was one of your closest friends. You ended up running into Kuroo, who you ended up taking a liking to.

The following month you saw him again, he had gone to support Bokuto at a practice match, while you ended up there since volleyball was one of your favorite sports to spectate. You both hung out, until his girlfriend got upset and wanted to leave, although she was seen parading with several other boys. He had quickly vented to you, before leaving with the she-devil, who gave you a dirty look.

Since then, you had grown extremely close with him.

"I'm sorry, I don't know how she can claim to love you, yet she's obviously so willing to hurt you." You said softly.

From that day on, you both kept in touch, texting each other day and catching up on each other's lives. He had downfalls and so did you, but the great thing about your friendship was that you both were there to always pick the other up.

As expected, he fell head over heels for you, or so he claimed. He would constantly remind you how beautiful you were, while making sure you knew how precious and amazing you were. You could say the same for him, who wouldn't fall for his bed-headed looks and playful personality?

But, despite how hard he was falling for you, he chose to tell you he didn't want a relationship. You felt utterly confused, while your feelings grew for him. Kuroo told you how much he hated himself for flirting with you, yet not wanting a relationship. Yet he couldn't hide the fact that he really liked you. You shook it off, shoving your feelings down your throat as you decided you'd ignore yours.

The relationship remained consistently friends, despite your feelings for him. The third year was so confusing when it came to his emotions, you'd think if somebody really liked someone, they would continue to go after them, instead of fool around with other girls. Basically, boys are confusing and dumb, you concluded. You got utterly sick of waiting for him to make up his mind in the romantic relationship area, so you ended up dating a guy from Fukurodani, who was also a second year like yourself. Despite having a boyfriend, you both kept your close friendship, although it wasn't nearly as close as before.

Little did you know every single day you talked, he fell more and more in love with you. He loved the way you were so open to his personality, flirty and provocative yet a nerd and goofball at the same time. You accepted him for him, and he couldn't help but fall in love with you. The girl who was gorgeous, amazing, genuine, sincere with a personality he viewed as almost perfection.

So, when the end of the school year rolled around, you went and watched Nekoma graduate. The graduation was filled with tears as you said goodbye to all of your third year friends, then Kuroo came up last. He gave you the biggest hug he could, not letting go of you for several minutes until you pulled away.

Your boyfriend was standing by the rest of your friends. As a second year, you felt it hit you that this was going to be you next year, saying goodbye to the people you had lived out your teenage years with.

"Thank you for being amazing. And for being there for me when I needed it the most. You gave me love and affection when I desperately needed it." He said softly, his amber eyes gazing at you lovingly. "I just need to tell you this before I go off to college." Kuroo waited for your look of approval before continuing. "I love you with all of my heart and I always have, and I've fallen so hard for you that it hurts. "

You were shell shocked, he loved you? You tried to hide your frown but it broke through your smile. "Tetsu, you waited a little too late. I'm with someone else now. If you would have told me that a few months ago I would have been more than happy to return the feelings."

"I just wanted you to be happy." He said softly, although the heart break tugged at his emotions.

"I am happy, with him. And I am happy to have you as a friend. I just wish you would have told me this before." You said, crossing your arms over your chest as you tried to be as gentle as possible.

"(f/n)! Come on we're leaving." Your boyfriend said as he tugged on your jacket sleeve softly, watching as his best friend was bouncing off the walls with excitement to go to the graduation after parties, you needed to get out of there before his best friend decided to run there instead of drive.

"Okay babe, I'm coming." You said, before giving Kuroo a sad smile.

"Good luck at college, I hope life treats you well and don't be afraid to use my number if you need it." You said softly, before turning to follow your boyfriend who was leading your group of friends away.

Kuroo tried to hide the hurt on his face, but he couldn't. He watched you walk away as every bit of regret ate him whole. Kenma moved beside him, watching you disappear.

"You lost one of the most amazing girls out there. While you were having fun with other girls, you were losing the only one that mattered." He said, turning to Kuroo.

"I can't believe I let her go." Kuroo ran his hand through his dark hair, eyes falling to the ground as he fought the aching pain his chest. He was absolutely sick to his stomach.

He could still recall that ache a year later, although it had basically been buried with the rest of his high school emotions.

Until he saw a girl walk in through the door of his college classroom. She was beyond beautiful in every way shape and form. Except Kuroo wasn't the only guy with his eyes on you, basically every other male even some females had their gazes planted on you.

That ache, the one full of guilt and regret, resurfaced. He thought he could maintain his calm expression just fine, until you sat next to him at the lab table, which was the only other open seat.

"Hey Tetsu, it's been awhile." You said, your eyes glimmering as he fought back the suffocating emotions currently stuck in his throat.

He couldn't help but ask himself, Oh God, why did I let you go?
