"Ah yes!" Austin gave Shawn a high five as the lights flickered on and I smiled at the way everything lit up.
"Go check the back room and make sure the outside lights are off we don't need to attract anymore of those assholes." I said and Shawn nodded holding a 9mm pistol before tucking it in his waistband and walking out of the blood smeared gift shop.
I looked around as the group helped put up hand made boards so none of the light could be seen from outside. I saw Lauren struggling with a piece of wood and I couldn't help but walk towards her and help her.
"Ah no I got it thanks." She mumbled walking away from as she tried balancing the wood before slamming it against the window.
"What's her damn problem? I haven't done anything." I mumbled to myself as I stared at her but sighed looking down at my phone that I haven't turned on yet.
"Aye Y/NN they're off we checked but uh Shawn and I were gonna turn the gas on." Austin walked into the store front and I looked at him.
"Do you even know how to turn it on?" I asked incredulously as I raised my eyebrows and he rubbed the back of his neck.
"Uh we'll figure it out I mean I used to help Alejandro-"
"Okay, okay just don't blow this place up I swear to god guys." I huffed and Shawn slowly took Austin out of the room before laughing at me.
"So when can we stop this bullshit and shower bubs?" I heard Brad ask as he stopped wiping up the blood in the gift shop.
"They're working on it dickface just keep cleaning that shit up." I grumbled and he chuckled obnoxiously before wiping the blood off the tiled floor with a random tee shirt in the store.
"Actually mate I think I'm going to do something else for a bit." He walked out of the shop and into the Subway diner.
He patted my shoulder as he walked up to Lauren and she let him help her with the board. I bit my lip growing frustrated with the lipless boy and I crossed my arms watching their interaction. Why would she want his help and not mine? I didn't do anything but say one thing and that was yesterday.
It's not like I don't want her here now. Her face is meant to be looked at every single day and appreciated but definitely not by him. Who wants him? Whatever it's not like I really care anyways. I shook my head and sat on top on one of the Subway counters before taking a certain journal out of my bag.
Her journals were one of the rare things I had that weren't destroyed or damaged. I was extremely grateful for that and I loved going through her chicken scratch writing. God she really did have bad handwriting. I giggled to myself as I read her entry where she practically bragged about my buddy downstairs the whole page.
Of course I haven't read them all; there was so many entry's she had over four journals and each page was filled. Almost every day since the first day of sixth grade up to the day she died it killed me to know how it ended. How her entry's ended and how her life ended too. She was only eighteen. We were gonna go to college in August we already put a down payment on an apartment near our college.
All of it was just washed away because she got bit. A little bite ruined everything. I wondered how this all happened; who got sick? Did someone try to experiment on something and it got out of hand? Did something explode and spread to the people who died? What happened?
I closed the red notebook as a tear fell on top of it and I sniffled lowly making sure it didn't really echo in the empty room. I heard two familiar laughs and I looked up to see Shawn and Austin coming back inside the shop.
"Everything's all set!" Shawn smiled and Austin bro slapped Shawn's chest as what he called it.
"We should've totally been maintenance guys!" Austin said but Shawn just stared at him before he shook his head.
