Chapter 7: Weakness

"Ideas, ideas! Think Sage, think! I have no idea what to do. A challenge? What was I thinking! A challenge! I must be insane!" I was panicking, and when I panic, I really panic. "Okay, calm down, calm down." I said, my voice getting higher. I take a deep breath. "What do challenges usually have in them?" I brainstorm. "Weaknesses. The Respected One's weakness. The history books!"

First, I need all the history books I can find, which is probably not a lot. My village doesn't have a habit of teaching any history. Or teaching anything. Or reading at all. We're too busy working, sleeping, and hiding from ourselves and others. I don't think we even have a school. If we do, we certainly don't use it. My community is antisocial, just like me, but hopefully I can find something.

I leave the house and think about where I can find a few books. I immediately think of the library, and begin an another stressful subject. Wondering where The Respected Ones went. "Where could they be? There aren't many places to hide in the village," I mumble to myself.

"Where who could be? You aren't playing hide and seek with the children again?" It was Jason, my next door neighbor. He's always bugging me, probably because he has a crush on me. I heard that somewhere. From my mom, I think.

"No. I'm doing something important with my time today."

"Like what? Volunteering to do everyone's dirty laundry?" As if! I don't do other people's laundry and he knows it. I have enough trouble doing my own.

"I'm saving my life. And if you don't get out of the way, I'll probably be dead by morning." I blurt out, annoyed and immediately regretting it. Now he'll be even more annoying.
