THREE YEARS LATER

The scent of anti bacterial wipes fills my nose as I make my way down the pure white halls.
"Sorry for the lack of color, some of the patients get a little to excited when they see to much of it," the Erudite woman explains in a bored tone as she leads me down the corridor. Stopping in front of a door that reads 567 she takes out a key and hastily unlocks it while I stand and take in the hallways simplicity.

A click makes my head turn and I watch as the Erudite woman opens up the door slowly, "You have 10 minutes." My feet move without my consent and I'm slowly walking into the small white room, a table with two chairs sit in the middle of the white room and in one of those chairs a man with scruff on his whole face and hands handcuffed to the table to keep him from attacking me sits smiling.

I slowly take a seat across from the man whose eyes stare at me with so many crazed emotions on his face.
"Autumn," he states and I meet his eyes, "It's been a long, long time."
"Yes it has Nate, but I wouldn't say to long," my voice is on edge as I take in his appearance. It's been three years since I've seen him and  almost everything about him has changed, his hair is dark brown instead of blond, probably due to the lack of sunlight, along with his usual tan skin a pasty white reminding me of the walls and a long beard on his face makes him look a lot older than just 21.

"Why are you here Autumn?" his voice remains sickly calm and I twiddle my thumbs without looking into his eyes.
"I don't know," my voice is hoarse and I find it in me to look into his eyes. We sit in silence for a while before he finally speaks up, "You got engaged?" he questions and my eyes flash to the diamond ring resting on my finger.
"Married.... " I correct, "....yesterday. "After this I'll be on my honeymoon," I don't know why I'm telling him this but I just can't stand the painful silence any longer.

"So that's why you're here," his voice calm and almost soothing speaks out, "Three years ago you were supposed to be engaged to me, and you come to me three years later, married. For... closure?" he questions lightly. Closure? Yes I'm here for closure that must be what made my legs find there way into the Erudite's one and only mental hospital that the Candor sent him to 3 years ago.
"You know I have you to thank for me being alive," his words cut the silence and he tilts his head slightly, "Those Dauntless would've killed me or sent me to the Factionless sector, but no, you wanted me to have a fair trial so the Candor sent me to the nut house," he laughs while banging on the table a few times.

Letting out a long groan he rolls his head back when I don't respond to his moment of insanity, "So..." he leans forward folding his hands in front of him with a wide sickening smile on his face, "Autumn, tell me what it's like outside the Nut House?" his smile only grows as I slowly make eye contact.
"My sister..." I start.
"Yes Ryley," he interrupts shaking his head encouragingly.
"She defected to Dauntless," I say eyeing him as I remember the yellow streak that fell into the Duantless net.
"And tell me then, were your parents at your wedding? Did they approve of the whole Eric scenario?" he questions with a playful grin on his face.

"Yes," I say cautiously, "They did approve."
"And why would they ever approve of you marrying a murderer?" he sneers and I notice that his mood has drastically switched due to his bipolar disorder. I wait a beat before responding, knowing that if I lose it in here then I'll be in big trouble.
"Because he saved my life," my voice speaks and Nate's head tilts back and forth like hands on a clock.
"Because he saved your life," he repeats and continues to tilt his head back and forth like the deranged psycho he is.

"Tell me MORE!" he shouts slamming his hands on the table and I jump in my chair slightly, "I want to know everything! I've been in this place for three years fill me in on the gossip," there goes his other mood swing.
"Eleven of the twenty transfers remain in Dauntless the rest are now in Amity," I reply softly before continuing, "Cade and Fauna are together now."
"Well what happened to Cade and Bailey? I always shipped them," he snorts.
"Bailey's dead," I whisper and he spins his head in a circle at that.
"DEAD DEAD DEAD THEY ALL END UP DEAD! Well at least in the books!" he cheers and I begin to feel sick at the sight of him. I don't know if this is closure or just something else to haunt my nights besides Bailey's dead eyes or Max's blood covered body.

"So what do you do?" he asks and starts to chew obnoxiously despite nothing being in his mouth.
"I'm a leader," I answer with pride.
"Well what happened to the other leader?" he gasps.
"I killed him."

"That's neat."

I look out as the thunderstorm rages on, the curtains fly and twist in odd ways but I never close the window, no instead I look out at the storm that used to scare me so much but now it's something I actually like to watch. I admire the lightning and it streaks across the sky giving light to the raindrops that fall to there demise.

I'm still surprised that my father let Eric and I stay in a cabin about a mile away from the Dome for our honeymoon. It gives us the perfect amount of privacy for the short week that we'll be here and at the same time we can go to the Dome and visit the Amity whenever we please.

Warm arms wrap around my bare stomach as I stand watching the storm in nothing but my lingerie that Sasha picked out for me. Eric's head digs into my hair as his naked torso presses to mine and he inhales my scent deeply, "What are you thinking about princess?" his husky voice whispers in my ear over the raging storm outside.

The wind howls as I answer, "Us," it's a simple answer and enough to make him pull me into a soft and tender kiss, a kiss I don't think I will ever be able to forget. But the truth is that it is 'us' it isn't a him or a me, it's an 'us'. We accent each other like black and white, we're polar opposites but bring out the best and strongest parts of each other. He's as cold as ice and I burn like a fire but together we're so much more than just that, we are one soul knit together through pain, grief and loss, we have such a dark and cold past but hold onto our sound and sweet future.

We're like an angel and a devil sitting on someone's shoulder whispering in their ear and no one can survive without one or the other it's just what makes us human.
