Rain poured down, masking the screams as the fire raged on. He tried; he tried to stop the destruction that was taking place, but he couldn't. Another thing he couldn't do was protect the innocent. Instead, he destroyed it.

His blue eyes held a hidden pain for those he couldn't save, as well as the ones he hurt. Why did he have to be the one to do everything wrong?

"Cas." A voice called out softly, drowned out by the rain that was drenching him to the bone. "Cas, listen to me." He turned his head and saw you in burnt clothes with smoke covering your face. You had on a small smile as you walked towards his shaking frame. "It's okay, Cas. You did what you could."

"But there were still people in there." He mumbled absentmindedly as you grabbed onto his sleeve. You sighed and pulled him towards your car that was hidden in the underbrush.

"You can't always save everybody. It's sad to say, yet it's true." You helped him get into the car. He was running away into his mind, beating himself up for not saving everyone. Anything you could say wouldn't help him, so you decided not to say anything. Instead, you sat in silence, the only sound was the beating rain and the car's rumbling engine as you drove down the highway.

You turned on the radio and changed the channel until something good turned on. A song you had never heard before played quietly, the girl's voice portraying how you felt exactly to the blue eyed angel sitting in the back. You let your eyes stray back to his through the rearview mirror and saw he was already watching you.

"Everything will be okay, Cas. You've just got to let it come." You whispered quietly. He sighed and shuffled around.

"I don't deserve for everything to be okay. People died because of me. I'm the one at fault." Cas replied, anger in his voice. It wasn't directed at you; it was directed at himself. You locked your jaw and pulled the car over to the side of the road before unbuckling your seatbelt and crawling in back with the angel. You took off his rain-soaked coat and undid his tie to let him breathe.

"Don't you dare say that. This was not your fault. If it's anyone's fault, it's mine. I'm the one who didn't find the case until it was too late. You are not at fault, Castiel." Your voice was hard as stone; he knew there was no way to get past your words. So, instead he stayed quiet and watched you with sorrow-filled eyes. You reached to the front and turned the heater on full blast, snuggling up to Cas after that.

He leaned into you as you played with his hair and fell asleep to the sound of pattering rain on the window panes and the soft music from the radio. You smiled and closed your eyes. Right now, there was nothing you could do to settle his undone soul. Yet over time, you would be able to help him grow and mend his wounds. You just needed to wait the time out until he would let you in.
