It had been a day since I met Ashton and we'd already exchanged numbers. He is possibly one of the most straight-forward person I've ever met and I'm starting to like hanging out with him, even though it was just a few times yesterday in school. Although I've told the rest of the boys about him and how he's so nice, they weren't really pleased.
"You just met him yesterday and you're already texting him and all?" Luke asked, making his usual 'what the hell is wrong with you' look. I rolled my eyes at him but he just crossed his arms over his chest.
"Oh believe me,Luke. I've seen much worst." Calum said, leaning further into his chair before scooping a spoon of yoghurt into his mouth.I looked over at him and furrowed my eyebrows.
"Um, what?" I asked, taking away his cup of yoghurt and put it on the table. "Don't act like you don't know. You were hooking arms with him!" He raised his voice and took his yoghurt back into his hands.
Michael suddenly came closer to the table."It's no big deal. Maybe our dear El is finally turning into a girl!" I opened my mouth, shocked. I reached over and slap him by his ears.
"What is that supposed to mean? I am a girl!" Michael looked at me before laughing alongside Calum. "Sure you are but you don't act like one. But that's okay because you're becoming more feminine." The pair started laughing again, high five-ing each other.
I wasn't really offended by that actually because they were right. I don't act like a girl but that doesn't mean I don't think like one. I just don't see the point of buying thousands of clothes in one visit to the mall, apply cake to my face or wearing dresses and high heels. My mum was like that but I am not and I don't think I'll ever be like that sooner.
"Don't listen to them." Luke gave me a reassuring smile but I don't know whether he meant it or saying just so I could feel better even though I was feeling perfectly fine.
My phone vibrated in my hands and I looked down to see a text from Ashton.
Where are you sitting?
I looked around the room to find Ashton and I finally saw him, standing at a corner looking around the room, with a bottle of water in his right hand and his phone in his left. His eyes finally darted towards our direction and I took the opportunity to wave at him. With that, his eyes came to our exact direction and he smiled, walking towards us.
"Hey." He smiled, taking a seat beside Michael, who already stopped laughing. I glared at Michael before looking over at Ashton and smiling.
"Goodness. You should've seen how she looked at him." Michael elbowed Luke and said it perfectly clear for the whole group to hear even though I knew he only meant for only Luke to hear.
"What?" I looked at Michael as if he said the most ridiculous thing ever. "Oh stop it,I know you two like each other!" Michael said although he knew well Ashton was sitting right beside him.
"We've only met yesterday!" I defended myself and rolled my eyes at how Michael was being so annoying that I could shave his hair off.
"I do like you, El. As a friend, of course." He said but I didn't know why but the first part made me a tad happy but once it reached the last part, I felt a little disappointed.
"Oh, me too." I said with no emotion whatsoever.
Michael gave a look of disappointment but his face changed once he turned to face Luke. "Aw that's too bad because I wanted you guys to be together but that's alright. We have Luke!" He pushed Luke by his arms and I reached over, immediately, and stopped him from falling. I guess it was in my nature to suddenly catch someone before they fall.
"Don't be ridiculous. I can never imagine myself to be with one of you noobs." I let go of Luke once he was able to sit straight back in his seat.
"Hey who are you calling 'noobs'?" Calum and Michael said at the same time and started laughing. Ashton laughed along with them as well, either finding it amusing that I called the guys 'noobs' or the way Michael and Calum said the same thing at the same time.
I looked over at Luke and he looked hurt. A flash of disappointment on his face but changed instantly once he realized I was looking at him.
Well what was that about?
•••••••••
School has ended a few minutes ago and I was still waiting for the guys at our usual spot; the bench, to go home together from there.
"Where the hell are you guys?" I shouted through the phone call with Calum.
There were muffled sounds on the other line as if the phone was passed to another person,"Hello?" A voice who sounded like Michael said through the phone. "Where the hell are you?" I said raising my voice once more.
"Um sorry. We had to go get something. You can go first if you like?" He said, sounding a bit unsure but I just rolled my eyes. "Fine." I said after a good few seconds.
I switched off my phone and started walking until I felt someone's hand on my shoulder. I looked to my right shoulder and saw Ashton panting right beside me.
"Are you alright?" I asked, looking skeptically at him. "Oh yeah, I am. Just..Let's walk home together." He grabbed my arm and practically dragged me out of the school gates.
We were now already walking outside of the hellhole we call, school. Ashton's hand was still on my arm until he let go of it which made me frown a little bit. I don't know but lately, I've been thinking of what Michael said earlier during lunch period.
"Okay now that we're out of earshot," he paused after looking around the street for signs of who knows what. He breathed in and then quickly added,"How do I ask a girl out?"
I was confused a little to why he would ask that. Does he like someone? I frowned at the thought but shook it off and looked at Ashton for an explanation.
"Ugh.. So I saw this cute girl in Biology and I'm just a little nervous.I thought maybe you would give advice or some of that girly shit." He smiled at me full of hope like I would actually give him advice. I barely know what a girl likes, or maybe I do.
So he does like someone. My subconscious adds. I felt a little disappointed but I've always felt like this ever since Ashton came and I was clueless, literally. "You decided to come to me for a girl advice? How stupid." I chuckled.
"Hey..Come on now." He punched me on the shoulder like how I would always do to him. "I don't know honestly." I said only that and looked back towards the street. We are almost reaching my house.
"What kind of girls do you even like?" I added jokingly, but deep inside I was really interested and it pisses me off so much.
He was deep in thought for a few minutes before opening his mouth."That's simple. I like all kinds of girls! But specifically, those girls who wears cute dresses, with long hair and just have a cute laugh." He smiled.
That kind of girl does not exist when he's with me. I'm not like that.
"What about you?" He carelessly laughed. I rolled my eyes at him. "I don't like girls." He shook his head and rubbed his forehead,"Right sorry. I meant what kind of guy." He dragged the word 'guy'.
What kind of guys do I like?
"I don't know."
But I do know now that I, Eliza Jo, likes Ashton Irwin. The weirdest possible thing to ever happen to me since I was born.
