Chapter 13/The Governer's party

As I got out I noticed the parking boy. He was TDM the man that had been speaking to Mr. Wallace before Mr. Wallace had been arrested. It took a moment but he did a double take and I think recognized me despite my having two smoky shadows for eyes, cool hair, and a dress which would make Cate Blanchett envious. As we emerged Alexander had held my hand. I was grateful despite Emily's lessons I still wasn't quite safe in these high heels. Then Alexander put his arm around me and held me close to him with his hand on my hip. I kind of objected to the epic ego of someone who thought he could just to it to someone without asking but I appreciated his warm support.

The photographers kept shouting out "can we have a photograph Mr. Strong". Alexander would then walk up to the velvet rope with me. He would take the camera, the photographers would pose together and he would take their picture. Emily would sometimes pout and take a selfie with her phone with them.

We left the photographers taking pictures of themselves flashing like a small fireworks display was happening at the steps. We walked slowly and gracefully up the stairs to a large door. Here there were some security guards. Well, we walked up I looked around wondering where the symbol might be. The Instructions had said 'UNDER THE SECOND LEG OF THE MAZE AT THE OPPOSITE END OF THE TOWN FROM HERE.'

I just had to find the second leg of the maze where ever that was. I guess it wouldn't be easy. After all, this was a test to try and filter out the infected people. It would be full of clues as only the possessed would be able to solve. It's clear my dad had been one of them. Somehow the Department of homeland defense was trying to infiltrate this group. But how have they known about the Tuesday night meet up enough to stake it out? I tried to stop thinking about it, I should concentrate on the here and now and on finding the maze.

Alexander kept his hand around me, Emily hung out with us as well.

"Look," said Emily "it's Mom and Dad smiley face.😁"

I have never been slapped by an electric eel but if I never am, I know what it will feel like and that was what I was feeling just then. Alexander and Emily moved swiftly up to the couple. The dad seemed to be an older bulk version of Alexander, and the mother elegant with her styled gray hair seem to be an older version of Megan. In fact, you did wonder if she was just Megan's face after too many cycles in the washing machine.

"Alexander who is this young thing?" said Alexander's mother. Alexander was busy doing complex handshakes with people.

"Mom meet Kaitlyn my new girlfriend," said Alexander. "Kaitlyn this is my Mom Evian"

"I'm not. I mean .. he.. hasn't we haven't" I began. My face must have taken the color of Strawberry Shortcake.

"Still haven't quite found one who can speak in full sentences have we?" said Evian looking at me.

"I can speak in sentences." I said ". fully." OK, I fluffed that one and the stress was freaking me out, now I didn't have to pretend to be infected.

"Where did she come from. If you don't mind me asking? You don't mind me asking do you? No you didn't do you?" said Evian. She spoke like she obviously thought I was some breed of Pekinese.

"She works in McDonalds," said Megan approaching with her ass on a thin lead behind her ."I asked for a big mac and she tried to pass off a muffin as one."

"I'm not surprised." said Evian "Well the last one was a model and had only played a mermaid in a commercial and I thought Alexander had gone as low as he could. Who knew."

Help me I thought 'I'm being disapproved of by a woman named after over priced tap water'.

"Why don't we go and dance?" said Alexander pulling me towards him.

"There isn't any music," I said.

"Well, the music in my head is pretty loud. If you hold it close yours you should hear it" said Alexander.

"Before you go," said Evian holding my hand.

She came close to me.

"You don't think I'm very nice. Then you should know I'm so much nicer when you don't get to know me. Goodbye." said Evian letting go.

"Look there is governor Willly," said Alexander as we left the fuming Evian.

"I've got to go powder my nose," I said, "I'll come find you."

Just then Alexander was rounded on by a couple of executives.

"Alexander," said the first "I was just talking to your Father. We want to talk to you about the fabulous future in horse drawn transport."

Finally, I was free to go search the governor's mansion on my own.
