They might be "sweet on" one another, they might "fancy" each other, they might "set their hearts upon" each other, they ache or pine for someone, desire or wish for, "see them in their dreams", they might have "a fondness" for someone, they might be "besotted with", "attracted to," perhaps they have a "keen interest" or they "caught the eye of", they are "infatuated by" or have been "enchanted with", maybe even "carry a torch for" or something similar.
And don't worry, it's not a strange question! I have definitely thought of this one before myself.
