Chapter 24: Lavender Town

You sigh and turn around:
"Lillie, I... I'm sorry, but I have to go."
She nods, smiling, but you can see it's a sad one:
"Of course, Y/n. Always follow your heart."
"My heart says I have to stay here. But Red needs me. I can't stick around while he's in danger."
She nods:
"You're right. Where do you need to go to?"
You take her hands in yours:
"Lavender Town..."
She looks you in your eyes, and for one of the first times, you see real fear in her eyes. Trouble eyes, full of tears now. She gives you a long kiss, but says nothing. You give her a long hug as well:
"What are you going to do?"
She sighs:
"I am going to help Gladion to drive away the Rocket grunts here in Celadon. Will you not allow me to come with you?"
You shake your head:
"I would allow it, but Gladion needs you, like Red needs me. Besides, I don't want to lose you. You're safer here."
She kisses you another time:
"I understand. Good luck out there."
You nod:
"Thank you. You too."
You walk away, but turn around one more time:
"Oh, and uhm... Lillie... I'm sorry about what happened..."
She smiles:
"Now go, before it's too late!" She shouts, joking. You give her a wink and mount Charizard.  Flying away in silence, you think about what happened to the grunt.

The tower of Lavender Town appears in front of you, and you see Red wave at you. You land next to him:
"So, what are we dealing with?"
He points at the tower:
"Team Rocket grunts have barricaded themselves in the tower, but at night, they come out and steal people's Pokémon and wallets."
You nod:
"Shouldn't be too hard."
You walk towards the metal door, which is also barricaded from the inside. You smile:
"Red, use your Charizard" You say, while sending out Garchomp:
"Castle walls only hold in peace until they fall, so we're going to bang on this door. Dracarys."
Garchomp starts to breath fire, and Charizard follows its lead. Soon, the door melted. Red's eyes widen:
"They used gravestones as barricades?!..." He begins to cough:
"I'm sorry... my voice is a bit... broken..."
You smile:
"Give signs from now on, and keep quiet."
Garchomp clears away the stones, and you and Red sneak your way up. There, two grunts are playing cards. You walk up to them:
"Salutations, friends. Where can we find your Commander?"
Neither of the grunts look up:
"Next floor. Why are you here anyway?"
You give them a hearty smile, while giving Red a sign behind your back:
"Because the tower is pretty... badly guarded." You whisper, while giving the biggest grunt a hit in his throat. He falls unconscious immediately. Red slams the other grunt with his head against a wall.
He's probably unconscious too... probably.
You grin:
"Good. Now, let's proceed. Careful now. There's going to be a lot of fighting."
He nods, and you slowly ascend the stairs.
Proton was giving drilling exercises to a couple of grunts, and as they hear the footsteps, they all turn around and spot you. The green-haired man steps forward, arms spread:
"Welcome, friends! Red, the hero! Y/n, the brat! I never expected to see you again after our previous battle. Your girlfriend wasn't captured that day, unfortunately... where is she now?"
You smile:
"That's none of your business."
You say, looking around:
"No Smokescreen this time?"
He laughs:
"No, not this time. Weezing!" He shouts, sending out his favourite Pokémon. He points at the light switch, and Weezing smacks its big body against it!

Everything went dark, and Red disappeared.
You can hear battle sounds, coming from everywhere, but nowhere a grunt to be seen. Suddenly, a Kantonian Marowak appears in front of you. A Marowak with icy blue eyes... a floating bone appears next to it, and suddenly it launches the bone at you! You roll to the left, dodging the bone. You also dodge it on its way back. Marowak catches the bone and storms at you, using Stomping Tantrum! It hits you full in the chest, and you get thrown to the ground.
You suddenly feel something metallic behind you.
Is this a... door?
You push it open, just when you hear Red's Charizard using a Flamethrower. You close the door behind your back with a slam. The sound of a bone smashing against the door can be heard. The sound of a door locking itself too...
