Burr was alone; he was always alone.

His father had died when he was only nineteen months old; his mother and grandparents following suit in the next year.

He was always alone.

Then he had met Hamilton.

He and Hamilton had been roommates during Burr's sophomore year of Princeton.

When he first met him; he talked a lot. Burr even gave him some friendly advice, to talk less, smile more.

That was what he always did.

He couldn't afford to lose anything he had due to his opinions not resonating with someone else's. It wasn't that he didn't have them; he just made sure not to tell them.

He and Hamilton had talked a lot in their first few months as roommates; well Hamilton had done most of the talking, but Burr was a good listener, he absorbed everything like a sponge.

Hamilton had only been a freshman, yet he was two years younger than Burr, and when he asked, he explained to him his entire situation.

Aaron was quite amazed; he connected with the young man regarding family situation, he was also an orphan. But the difference was that his parents had left him a lot of money, the money had never been a problem for him. Hamilton, however, didn't have anything but his writing.

Burr had considered Alexander to be his friend.

He thought they got along okay.

He even requested to be his roommate again in the following year.

But apparently Hamilton didn't consider him a friend; he applied to change roommates.

Now he just ignored him, barely noticing him in class, not even attempting to hold up any conversation they started.

So Burr thought he had gotten the message.

He was alone.

He'd always be alone.
